HealthCraft Bariatric SuperPole™ - Floor-to-Ceiling Safety Pole for Maximum Stability

The HealthCraft Bariatric SuperPole (SP-HD) is a floor-to-ceiling transfer pole made in Ottawa. Maximum user weight is 450 lbs. It is not intended to support full body weight.

What does it do and how does it work?

• Pole: 1.5 in (38 mm) steel with a white anti-microbial powder coat and a 20 in (508 mm) latex-free foam grip; 20 in top plate and 5 in base plate.
• Height: 93 to 99 in (2362 to 2515 mm).

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

It is a handhold for sitting and standing beside a bed, chair, toilet or tub.

• Lifting: it is not a hoist. Choose a patient lift if the person cannot take their own weight.
• Bedside safety: entrapment risk rises with dementia, confusion, restlessness, frailty or sedation. Never with children, or on toddler, bunk, water, electric or inflatable beds, or beds with toppers.
• Ceilings outside 93 to 99 in: use the floor-mounted Advantage Pole or Advantage Rail; no extender or custom cut is offered at 450 lbs.

Will it fit?

• Ceiling: flat, 93 to 99 in (2362 to 2515 mm) high. Do not cut the pole yourself.
• Joists: the 20 in plate must sit under one joist or span two; for 24 in spacing, the Ceiling Plate Extender (SP-CPE) is separate.
• Avoid: angled ceilings, radiant ceiling heat, a ceiling whose framing cannot be identified, loose floor coverings, direct water and outdoor use. The base plate rests on a structural floor and is not bolted.

Using and installing it

• You need a screwdriver, a stud finder and a drill. Ceiling screws are not in the box.
• Turn the jackscrew until the plate meets the ceiling, then about 2 to 5 turns; do not overtighten. Lock the jam nut and fit the cover sleeve. Inspect monthly and tighten if needed.
• Use a qualified contractor if you are not equipped for the work.
• Bed: at the waist, at least 12.5 in (320 mm) from the headboard and footboard, and tight to the mattress or 12.5 in away. If 12 lbs (5.4 kg) sinks the edge 2 in (51 mm), do not use it there.
• Toilet or chair: 3 to 10 in (76 to 254 mm) in front of the knees and 2 to 6 in (51 to 154 mm) to the side. Tub: base against the tub, about halfway along.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

• Fits: SuperBar add-on kit (SPB-AK), which locks every 45 degrees, and the Ceiling Plate Extender (SP-CPE).
• Does not fit: SuperTrapeze, Uni-Fit Extender and Angled Ceiling Plate.
• Standards and warranty: HealthCraft states compliance with ASTM F3186-24. Limited lifetime warranty to the original purchaser, on materials and workmanship; misuse, accidents, alterations, wear, rust and corrosive cleaners are excluded.

How does it compare?
