Description
The Drive Splash Defense Transfer Bench, part RTL12032KDR, spans a bathtub so a person can sit on it and move into the tub without standing. A U-shaped gap between the seat boards lets the shower curtain liner stay in the tub. It carries 400 lb (181 kg), and Drive says not to stand on it.
What does it do and how does it work?
- Seat: blow-moulded plastic boards with a U-shaped cut-out for the curtain liner, made with recycled materials.
- Height: 17.5 to 22.5 in (44.5 to 57.2 cm) in half-inch steps on dual-column legs.
- Legs: two large suction cups marked A for inside the tub, and two small rubber tips marked B for outside.
- Back: reversible for a left or right entry, with the tubes through both receptacles.
- Arm: one arm, which must arc outward rather than inward.
- Seat depth: adjusts by sliding the seat tubes until their pins lock.
- Capacity: 400 lb (181 kg).
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- For a seated transfer across the tub wall when the shower curtain liner has to stay inside the tub.
- For a plain bench without the cut-out, choose the Drive 12011KD-1.
- For a seat that slides along the bench, choose the Drive RTL12075.
- For a commode opening and pail, choose the Drive 12005KDC-1.
Will it fit?
- The tub wall must be no higher than 15.5 in (39.4 cm), with a bottom width of at least 18.5 in (47 cm).
- The tub top must be at least 23 in (58.4 cm) wide, and the edge no thicker than 5.5 in (14 cm).
- Set all four legs to the same height, with every tip touching the floor at once.

Using it day to day
- Join the two seat sections with the U-brackets, facing the legs marked A, and fit the back through both sets of receptacles.
- Push each leg and the arm in until the pins lock; the arm must arc outward.
- Set the height in half-inch steps with all four legs level, then check every pin is through.
- Slide the seat tubes to change the depth and let the pins lock again.

Frequently asked questions
Does the cut-out hold the curtain rod?
No. It is a gap for the liner already hanging in the tub; the rod stays where it is.
Can the seat depth change?
Yes. The seat tubes slide and lock at a new depth, though no depth range is published.
Which legs go inside the tub?
The legs marked A, which have the large suction cups; the B legs with small rubber tips stay outside.
Does it fold for storage?
It comes apart into sections with push pins, but it does not fold flat as one piece.

Drive Medical warrants the Splash Defense Transfer Bench with Curtain Guard (RTL12032KDR) to be free of defects in materials and workmanship for the lifetime of the original consumer purchaser.
- Term: limited lifetime.
- Covers the original consumer purchaser only.
- Excludes failure from owner misuse or negligence, and normal wear and tear.
- Excludes non-durable parts that wear and need periodic replacement, such as rubber accessories, casters and grips.
