Description
The ROHO High Profile cushion is the 4.25 in (10.5 cm) version of Permobil's Single Compartment cushion: one valve fills a grid of connected neoprene air cells on a base.
What does it do and how does it work?
- Air cells: each cell is a tall, flexible neoprene balloon, and all the cells share one air compartment, so air flows between them as the person moves.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- Deep immersion: for a wheelchair user whose therapist wants an adjustable cushion that the person sinks into.
- Height: the High Profile is the tallest single compartment; the Mid is 3.25 in and the Low 2.25 in.
- Assessment first: an occupational therapist or physiotherapist chooses it and sets the air level.
Will it fit?
- Person and chair: sized to both, using the seated measurements, seat width and depth, and the ROHO cell count.
- Cells to chair: 8 to 13 cells cover chairs from 13.25 to 23.5 in, in one-cell steps; ROHO's table gives the exact ranges, and we confirm the count from the measured chair.
- Seat sizes: 14, 16, 18, 20, 22 or 24 in wide and 14, 16, 18, 20 or 22 in deep.
- Sizes: six standard sizes plus two paediatric; wider sizes are custom to 15 x 14 cells.
- Capacity: no weight limit when it is sized correctly to the person; 3.25 lbs (1.5 kg) at 9 x 9 cells.
Using it day to day
- Inflation: open the valve, inflate until the cushion arches slightly, close it and do a hand check.
- Hand check: keep 1/2 to 1 in (1.5 to 2.5 cm) of air under the lowest bony point; check daily.
- Conditions: altitude changes may need readjustment, and a cold cushion should warm to room temperature.
- Skin: check the skin daily; stop for discolouration, and if it remains 30 minutes after removing the cushion, seek a healthcare professional.
- Damage: keep it away from sharp objects, high heat and oil-based lotions, and carry it by the base or cover, not the valve.
- Care: machine wash the cover cold at 30 C, gentle, and tumble dry low; hand wash the cushion, rinse and air dry, never above 70 C (158 F).
- Warranty: 24 months on the cushion and 6 months on the cover; punctures, tears, burns and misuse excluded; expected life 5 years.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- Covers: the standard stretch cover has spacer sides and a back zip; the heavy duty cover is fluid-resistant and zips at the front, for long-term care.
- Compatibility: use a correctly sized cover with nothing extra under the person; a non-compatible cover or pump can affect warranty.
- Custom sizes: made to order and non-returnable; read the return policy.
How does it compare?
The Drive Balanced Aire is another air cell cushion, the Blake Geo-Matrix Hybrid is gel over foam, and the wheelchair cushions hub lists the range on its air cushions page.
Frequently asked questions
How much air should a ROHO High Profile cushion have?
About 1/2 to 1 in (1.5 to 2.5 cm) between the lowest bony point and the seat, measured by hand check.
How often should I check the air?
Check at least daily and adjust whenever the hand check shows it is needed. Changes in altitude can require readjustment.
What is the difference between High Profile and Low Profile?
The cells are 4.25 in high, the Mid 3.25 in and the Low 2.25 in; taller cells give more immersion and raise the seat.
