Description
The JAY Ion is the middle cushion in the JAY range from Sunrise Medical: a foam cushion with a memory foam top layer, made in 91 sizes.
Browse wheelchair cushions.
Who is it for?
- It is a skin protection and positioning cushion for a rider who wants foam without air or fluid to look after.
- It sits above the JAY Basic, a 2 in (51 mm) foam cushion, and below the JAY Union, which adds a fluid layer.
- Someone who cannot shift their own weight, or whose assessment calls for fluid, is better served higher up the JAY range.
- Choose the right cushion in a seating assessment with an occupational therapist or physiotherapist.
Will it fit?
- Sizes: 91 standard size pairs, from 14 to 24 in wide (356 to 610 mm) and 14 to 24 in deep; not every width and depth combination is made.
- Height and weight: 4 in (102 mm) high, and 3.5 lbs (1.6 kg) at 18 x 18 in.
- Order a size the maker lists rather than naming two measurements; a non-standard size is made through JAY Your Way.
How does it work?
- The base is multi-layered foam, with the foam density set by the cushion width, so a 24 in cushion is firmer across the seat than a 16 in one.
- On top sits a soft Visco memory foam layer that moulds to the shape of the sitter.
- The cushion has a water-resistant Dartex-coated Lycra inner cover with a water-resistant zipper and anti-wicking thread, under a machine-washable stretch outer cover woven with silver thread.
What are the care limits?
- Zip the outer cover closed before washing, wash it warm, then drip dry or tumble dry on low; no ironing, dry cleaning, industrial machines or bleach.
- When you reassemble the cushion, the inner cover's white label faces down and both zippers sit at the rear.
- The foam base is warranted for 24 months and the removable inner and outer covers for 6 months; punctures, tears and burns are excluded.
How does it compare?
- The JAY Fusion is a contoured foam base with a fluid insert.
- The JAY J2 Deep Contour is a foam and fluid cushion with a deep pelvic well.
- The Spex Standard Contour is a contoured foam cushion with a gel-foam ischial well.
