Description
The Ki Mobility Spark is a paediatric folding manual wheelchair built to order for a young rider whose seating is chosen with a clinician.
What does it do and how does it work?
- A contoured backrest adds 2 in (5 cm) of usable depth and adjusts through 32 degrees.
- Seat depth changes by 4 in (10 cm) in 1 in steps; a frame extender keeps the frame shorter.
- The front is a swing-away end with patented footrests, or a fixed 70 or 80 degree frame; hangers come in 60, 70, 80 and 90 degree bends.
- The flip-up armrest adjusts for angle, height and length.
- Weight capacity is 165 lb (75 kg); transport weight is 17.5 lb (8 kg) on a 12 by 12 in frame with stroller handle posts and 5 in casters, after armrests, footrest and wheels come off.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- A young rider up to 165 lb (75 kg) whose seating is set individually and whose frame should fold.
- An adult, or a seat wider than 16 in: an adult folding wheelchair such as the Quickie QXi.
- A rigid frame instead of a fold: rigid wheelchairs.
Will it fit?
- Seat width 10 to 16 in (25 to 41 cm); seat depth 12 to 18 in (31 to 46 cm).
- Front seat height 13 to 21 in (33 to 53 cm); rear seat height 11 to 18.5 in (28 to 47 cm).
- Measure the child seated: hip width, hips to knee, and knee to heel with shoes on. A therapist or our free home assessment sets the order.
Using it day to day
- Before folding, remove the seating and flip up the footplates; lift the strap to release the cross brace supports.
- Push down on a cross brace to reopen the frame, then check the supports are seated.
- Set the wheel locks so they compress the tire and the wheel cannot move, and test them on a level surface.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- The rider and anything carried must total no more than 165 lb (75 kg), including in transit.
- Use it as a vehicle seat only with the WC-19 transit option.
- The chair is designed around a clinically prescribed seating system.
- Warranty: frame and quick-release axles for life; other Ki-made parts 1 year; wear items excluded. See the Warranty tab.
Which version should I choose?
- Front: swing-away with footrests, or a fixed 70 or 80 degree frame.
- Camber: 0, 2 or 4 degrees. Colours: gloss, matte and hydrographic finishes.
How does it compare?
- Quickie QXi: an adult folding chair.
- Helio A7: an adult ultralight folding frame.
- Type 3 wheelchairs: the full range.
