Description
The Maple Leaf NRG+ Gold is an aluminum folding wheelchair made in Mississauga for an adult who self-propels, and it is not the steel NRG+.
What does it do and how does it work?
It folds side to side on a cross brace. An axle plate on each side moves the rear wheels up, down, forward or back.
- The hemi frame sets the front of the seat, at the seat rail, from 12.5" to 17" (31.8 to 43.2 cm), so feet can reach the floor.
- The standard frame sets that height from 16.25" to 19" (41.3 to 48.3 cm).
- With armrests, footrests and wheels the chair is 32 lbs (14.5 kg). The limit is 250 lbs (113 kg).
- Anti-tippers stay on in use, at most 2" (5 cm) off the ground, and they are reset when the seat height changes.
- Footrests are removable swing-away hangers at 60, 70, 80 or 90 degrees.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- Adults to 250 lbs (113 kg) who push with their hands or their feet.
- The plain NRG+ is the steel chair. This product is the aluminum NRG+ Gold.
- Over 250 lbs (113 kg): the Move or bariatric wheelchairs. It does not tilt: see tilt-in-space wheelchairs.
Will it fit?
- Seat width is 14" to 20" (35.6 to 50.8 cm). Depth is 14" to 20" (35.6 to 50.8 cm).
- Overall width is the seat width plus 8" (20.3 cm). An angle-adjustable back needs T-style arms.
- We confirm seat width, depth and whether you need the hemi frame or the standard frame before you order. A free home assessment measures hips, hip to knee, and knee to heel.
Using it day to day
- Lift by a seat rail and a push handle, not by removable parts.
- Do not use it on an escalator. Leave the anti-tippers down while someone is in the chair. Basic colours are black, blue and burgundy.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- Seat upholstery is included. Back upholstery is ordered with the chair. The cushion and a firmer back support are separate.
- One-arm drive uses 22" or 24" rear wheels. Quick-release axles are optional. Rear wheels are 20", 22" or 24".
- Tie-downs are for an unoccupied chair. To ride in a vehicle, transfer to a vehicle seat.
- The frame and cross braces are covered for 5 years for the original purchaser. Other parts are covered for 2 years. Tires, tubes, armpads and upholstery are not. See the Warranty tab.
How does it compare?
- The Move adds a heavy-duty kit above this 250 lbs (113 kg) limit.
- The Quickie QX is rated to 300 lbs (136 kg), with a fixed axle plate.
- See Type 2 wheelchairs and folding wheelchairs.
