Description
The Sunrise Medical Quickie SR45 (EIZ9) is a steel tilt-in-space wheelchair for an adult limited to sitting, tilted by a caregiver.
What does it do, and how does it work?
- The seat turns on the Iris rocker arm around the rider's centre of gravity, 0 to 45 degrees back.
- Two back triggers or a right-side foot pedal release the tilt; releasing locks it, and locking pins stop tilt altogether.
- Optional Power Tilt adds an armrest toggle, a 24 V battery, 6-hour charging and a two-person manual override.
- Standard: 70 or 80 degree hangers, composite footplates, wheel locks, and 20 to 24 in handrim wheels; 12 and 16 in wheels have none.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- Adults up to 265 lbs (120 kg), rider plus items; no heavy-duty version.
- More tilt range or 400 lbs: the Quickie Iris.
- No tilt needed: a folding wheelchair. Mostly pushed: a transport chair.
Will it fit?
- Seat 14 to 20 in (36 to 51 cm) wide and 14 to 22 in (36 to 56 cm) deep in 1 in steps.
- Front and rear seat height 14 to 20.5 in (36 to 52 cm); 14 in needs 16 in wheels and 4 in casters, and handrims start at 16 in.
- Back height 15 to 21 or 18 to 24 in (38 to 61 cm); the 22 in (56 cm) deep frame cannot take the reclining back.
- Measure hip width, hip to knee and knee to heel in usual shoes, or book a free home assessment.
Using it day to day
- Squeeze both triggers or the foot pedal to tilt, and release to lock; never push tilted forward or tilt the back past parallel.
- Fit anti-tips with 1.5 to 2 in (4 to 5 cm) of clearance; they are optional but always recommended.
- The frame does not fold; the folding back and quick-release wheels come off. Wipe moving parts weekly; have a dealer service it yearly.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- 265 lbs (120 kg) covers the rider and carried items.
- Use firm, even surfaces; 5 in or larger casters clear obstacles up to 1/2 in (13 mm).
- The seat pan is not a seating surface and the standard foam cushion is not made for pressure relief; order a cushion.
- With the transit option, the chair has four tie-down points and needs Sunrise seating; belts are not vehicle restraints. Without it, never ride in a moving vehicle.
Which version should I choose?
- Manual triggers or foot pedal, or Power Tilt; transit is no charge.
- Quickship 2.0: gloss black, 16 to 20 in wide, 18 or 20 in deep, folding back, flip-back arms and 22 in wheels.
How does it compare?
- The Quickie Iris is aluminium, takes 300 lbs (400 heavy duty) and tilts 40 or 55 degrees.
- The Ki Mobility CR45 takes 300 lbs and comes apart to 38 lbs (17.2 kg).
Frequently asked questions
Can the rider tilt it alone?
Only with Power Tilt and the armrest toggle; otherwise a caregiver works it.
Does it recline as well as tilt?
The standard back sets with tools from -30 to 5 degrees; the optional reclining back adds a 45 degree range and does not fold.
Does it fit in a car?
The frame does not fold; choose the folding back and remove the quick-release wheels.
