Description
The Drive 15001ABV is a brown-vein, four-bar full-length rail in 1 in (2.5 cm) steel. It telescopes as the bed moves. See bed rails.
What does it do and how does it work?
- The outer tube sits at the head and the inner tube at the foot, so the rail shortens and lengthens with the bed.
- A spring knob sets one of three heights. It clicks into a hole, or the rail stop rests on the barrel.
- Keep both ends of one rail at the same height.
- When the head and the foot are raised, keep at least 47 in (119 cm) telescoped so the rail does not bottom out and bind the bed.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- For a full-length rail on a Drive 15033, 15235, 15005LP, 15004P or 15003P.
- Choose half-length rails, 15201BV, on a Delta 1000 when a full-length rail is more than you need.
- Not a restraint, and not the rail for a Joerns WeCare.
Will it fit?
The crossbraces need to be 45 to 72 in (114 to 183 cm) apart. We confirm the bed is a 15033, 15235, 15005LP, 15004P or 15003P before you order.
See the Delta 1000, the Delta 15235 and the 15005LP.
Using it day to day
- Put the outer tube in the head-end barrel and the inner tube in the foot-end barrel. Pull the knob, set the height, and wait for the click at both ends.
- In a semi-Fowler position, use the mid height if a gap opens beside the mattress. Then fit the second rail on the other side.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- On the Delta 1000, labels and colour-coded springs show the rail position.
- A gap can catch a head or a neck. Check every bed position. See Health Canada's hospital bed safety page.
How does it compare?
- Delta 1000: full-rail packages use this rail.
- Delta 15235: the low bed, also offered with this full rail.
- Joerns F168AL: a WeCare assist rail, not for these Drive frames.
Frequently asked questions
Does one case include both sides?
No. Each case is one rail. Fit one on each side of the bed.
Why must the outer tube be at the head?
That position avoids a pinch point when the bed goes up and down. The inner tube goes at the foot.
What if the rail is under 47 in while the bed is raised?
It has bottomed out and can bind the bed. Lengthen it before you raise the head and the foot.
