Description

The Drive 15201BV is a pair of brown-vein steel half-length rails for a Drive steel-frame homecare bed.

What does it do and how does it work?

It clamps to the steel frame tube and puts up a half-length side of 1 in (25 mm) steel.

  • Brown-vein 1 in (25 mm) steel. The bars are spaced so a person is not meant to lodge between them.
  • Half length leaves the foot end open for getting in and out.
  • Fixed clamp jaw in front of the frame tube, movable jaw on top, knob clockwise until tight.
  • One rail on each side. Two rails on the same side can cause injury or death.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

It suits a care team that wants the foot end left open on a listed Drive steel frame.

  • It suits the Delta 1000, the Delta low bed and the 15005LP.
  • Skip it for a pan-style deck, a wooden rail or a box spring.
  • A SoLite Pro 15006LP takes its own handles, not the 15201BV.
  • Rails are a care-team choice, not a restraint.

Will it fit?

It fits the Delta 1000 (15033), Delta low bed (15235), low-height bed (15005LP) and many other steel-frame beds.

  • Half-rail packages on the Delta 1000, Delta low bed 15235 and 15005LP use this pair.
  • The clamp needs a steel frame tube. Joerns, PrimeCare and Invacare frames need their own rails.
  • Set the mattress on the frame and check the gaps. The wrong mattress size or thickness opens a space beside the rail.
  • Health Canada's hospital bed safety page asks you to match the mattress to the frame before rails are used.

Using it day to day

Clamp one rail to each side and tighten the knob by hand.

  • Seat the jaws on the frame tube, then turn the knob clockwise until the clamp is tight.
  • After the head, foot or height moves, recheck both clamps.
  • Leave a side empty if the care team prefers it. Do not stack the spare rail on the occupied side.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

Keep it on a steel frame tube, one rail per side.

  • The matching clamp is Drive item 14198BV, sold one each. We confirm what is packed with this pair before you order.
  • It is a side rail, not a trapeze and not a bar to pull up on.
  • Lifetime limited warranty for the original purchaser. Misuse, wear, rubber parts, casters and grips are outside it. See warranty.

How does it compare?

Full-length rails cover more of these beds. A home bed needs a different handle.

  • Drive 15001ABV covers more of the side on the Delta and 15005LP frames.
  • The Drive M-Rail slides under a home mattress. It is not this clamp-on rail.
  • Other frames are on the bed rails list.

Frequently asked questions

Does a power cut release the clamp?

No. There is no motor and no battery. The knob stays where you left it.

Is the brown-vein finish wood?

No. It is a brown-vein coating on 1 in (25 mm) steel, not a wooden rail.

Can both rails go on one side?

No. One rail per side only. Two on the same side can cause injury or death.
