Description

The Medline MDS89698N is a half-length rail for Medline homecare beds. A spring-loaded double bar clamps across the bed deck, and a release button raises or lowers the rail.

What does it do and how does it work?

  • Stands 19 in (48 cm) tall and 36 in (91 cm) wide.
  • The bars sit less than 4 in (10 cm) apart.
  • The spring-loaded double bar mount connects to both sides of the bed deck and needs no tools.
  • The easy-release button lets the rail be raised or lowered.
  • Sold as a pair.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

  • For a Medline homecare bed that is not a bariatric model.
  • Whether a person should use a rail is a decision for their care team.
  • Not a restraint, and not for another brand of bed.
  • For a bariatric Medline bed use MDS89697BAR or MDS89697BARL, not this rail.

Will it fit?

  • Fits Medline homecare beds, excluding bariatric models.
  • It is not for a Drive Delta 1000, an Invacare IVC, a Joerns bed or a SoLite Pro.

Using it day to day

  • Fit the double bar across the bed deck; no tools are needed.
  • Use the release button to raise or lower the rail, then check it is secure.
  • Check the gaps at the mattress and the bed ends in every position.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

  • A changed rail or a mattress of a different size, thickness or density can create entrapment gaps; check the built bed in every position.
  • Use only Medline-authorized parts. Improper rail use can cause injury or death.
  • Health Canada advises checking that the mattress is the right size and type for the frame before rails are used. Health Canada hospital bed safety

How does it compare?
