Description

The Drive 15021BV-LW is a brown steel half-length rail pair for a Drive lightweight bariatric bed: 15300LW, 15302LW or 15303LW.

What does it do and how does it work?

It clamps to the labelled spot on that bed frame and gives a half-length side the person can hold.

  • Set the fixed clamp jaw under the frame at the half-rail label, and the movable jaw on top.
  • Turn the knob clockwise until the clamp is tight. A loose clamp can cause injury or death.
  • Fit both rails. The pair is meant to be used together, not as a single side.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

It is for a care team that has already chosen a Drive 15300LW, 15302LW or 15303LW.

  • A standard Drive homecare frame takes the 15201BV half rails, not this pair.
  • The 15021BV is a different T-style pair. It is not this lightweight rail.
  • It is not a restraint, and it is not for a child. The care team decides whether rails are used.

Will it fit?

It fits only those three beds, with a mattress 6 to 10 in (15 to 25 cm) high.

  • That is the 15300LW, the 48 in 15302LW and the 54 in 15303LW.
  • Any other bed, or a mattress outside that height, can leave a gap that can injure or kill.
  • Keep each rail tight against the mattress, at least 12.5 in (32 cm) from the headboard and the footboard.
  • Do not add a topper, overlay or soft pad. Those change the gaps.

Using it day to day

Clamp both rails on the labelled frame area before anyone uses the bed, and recheck them after the bed moves.

  • Look over the knobs, clamps and tubes. Stop if a part is loose, bent, rusted or missing.
  • If a rail shifts, stop and reset the clamp before the person gets back in.
  • Keep arms and legs on the mattress, not through the bars.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

Use both rails only when they are tight on the correct bed.

  • A powered air surface can raise entrapment risk. The care team weighs that first.
  • Do not use it on a toddler, bunk, water or inflatable bed.
  • The rails have a limited lifetime warranty for the original buyer. Knobs, grips, misuse and normal wear are excluded.
  • See Health Canada's hospital bed safety page on mattress fit and gaps.

How does it compare?

A standard Drive frame needs a different rail.

  • Drive 15201BV clamps to a standard Drive steel frame, not these three beds.
  • Drive 15021BV is the older T-style pair, a different item number.
  • Choose the bed first on the bariatric beds list, then add this pair.

Frequently asked questions

Can these rails go on a Delta bed?

No. They fit only the 15300LW, 15302LW and 15303LW. Another bed can leave a gap that can injure or kill.

What mattress height works?

Use a mattress 6 to 10 in (15 to 25 cm) high, tight to the rail, with no topper or soft pad.

Can I fit only one rail?

No. The pair is meant to be used together. A single side raises the risk of entrapment.
