The Lunar Heavy Duty Backrest Full Support is the tall back in Future Mobility's Lunar Heavy Duty family: the same extra-large aluminium shell as the mid height version, standing 20, 22 or 24 in high.
What does it do and how does it work?
- Shell: an extra-large aluminium shell with reinforcement ribs, so the back holds its shape under load.
- Laterals: the lower shell sides fold forward as built-in laterals, in a basic or ultra depth; four add-on lateral styles are ordered separately.
- Foam: a replaceable foam pad under a removable cover, replaceable on its own through the maker.
- Headrest: the shell is ready for a headrest; the mount kit is separate.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- Heavy duty: Made for users who weigh up to 500 lbs (227 kg) and need aggressive lateral support.
- Higher support: the full height reaches higher up the trunk than the Mid Support.
- Assessment first: an occupational therapist or physiotherapist sets the width, height and lateral depth.

- Widths: 22, 24, 26, 28, 30 or 32 in (559 to 813 mm).
- Heights: 20, 22 or 24 in (508, 559 or 610 mm).
- Sizes: 18 sizes, six widths by three heights; 22 to 26 in widths are stock, 28 to 32 in non-stock.
- Custom: a custom Lunar Heavy Duty back is made to order by quote.
- Back posts: clamps fit 1 in (25 mm) posts, with inserts for 7/8 in (22 mm); ask about 3/4 in.
- Chair width: the pins allow up to 2 in (51 mm) of seat width difference plus 1 in outward; extension pins for a 1 or 2 in wider frame are separate.
- Capacity: 500 lbs (227 kg).
Using it day to day
- Mounting: a cane clamp on each post, a mounting plate on each clamp, and pins on the back that hook in and latch at the bottom.
- Removal: the quick-release lower latches let the back lift off the chair.
- Adjustment: height on the posts with three screws and an Allen key; depth and recline set with the person seated; a recessed position reduces rearward stability.
- Care: wash the cover cold on a gentle cycle with mild detergent, no bleach or softener, and air dry in the shade; wipe the shell. Use the back only with its cover.
- Warranty: 3 years on the back, 1 year on hardware and 90 days on the cover.

Do I need the ultra lateral or the basic one?
The ultra lateral is the deeper of the two; both are built into the shell, and the assessment decides which the person needs.
What is the difference between the Lunar Heavy Duty and the Lunar Basic?
The Heavy Duty has a ribbed extra-large shell, 22 to 32 in widths and a 500 lb (227 kg) rating; the Lunar Basic is a lighter back in smaller widths.
Which height should I choose?
20, 22 or 24 in, set by the therapist from the seated measurements; the taller the panel, the higher the support reaches up the trunk.
