Future Mobility Healthcare of Mississauga builds the Lunar Basic Back in three heights; this is the middle one, 14 to 20 in wide and 14 to 18 in high.
What does it do and how does it work?
- Shell and foam: a lightweight aluminium shell with replaceable foam and a removable cover; the shell can be used as shown or upside down.
- Lateral style: the no lateral shell is 2.64 in (67 mm) deep at the side; the ultra lateral reaches 6.34 in (161 mm).
- Mounting: a cane clamp grips each back post, a plate bolts to it, and pins on the shell drop into the plates and catch on the lower latches.
- Hardware: quick release; height sets with an Allen key, and depth and angle adjust for the person.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- It suits a rider who needs lateral trunk support and complex positioning at mid height.
- Choose the Lunar HD for a heavier user, or the Lunar Slim for a lighter, shallower shell.
- Low Support is 10 to 12 in; Full Support is 20 to 24 in, and the low back takes no headrest.
- An occupational therapist or physiotherapist sets the back up in a seating assessment.
Will it fit?
- Sizes: 12 pairings, 14, 16, 18 or 20 in wide by 14, 16 or 18 in high; 16 to 20 in wide are stock, 14 in wide is built to order.
- Part numbers: MBS plus the lateral style (NL, BL or UL) plus width and height, for example MBSUL1818.
- Chair width: the pins take up to 2 in (51 mm) of difference between back and frame; extension pins suit a wider chair.
- Back posts: the maker lists 3/4, 7/8 and 1 in tubing; if your posts are 3/4 in, we confirm the clamp before ordering.
Using it day to day
- Removal: press the lower latch levers and lift the back off the chair.
- Cover: a 4-Way Stretch cover or an Infection Control cover; spare covers are ordered by back size.
- Foam: the foam is replaceable, so a worn pad does not mean a new back.
- Colours: black, dark green, navy blue, royal blue or burgundy.

- Headrest: the universal headrest mount fits the mid and full shells, not the low back.

Which lateral style should I choose?
No lateral for a flat shell, basic for mild support, ultra for the deepest wrap at 6.34 in; the assessment decides.
Can a headrest go on the mid back?
Yes. The universal headrest mount fits the mid and full Lunar shells and is ruled out on the low shell.
Are the narrow 14 inch mid backs kept in stock?
No. The 16, 18 and 20 in wide mid backs are stocked; the 14 in column is built to order.
