Stellato 2 Folding Wheelchair

The Stellato 2 folding wheelchair (Future Mobility Stellato II) is made in Canada and built to order for an adult up to 265 lbs (120 kg) who propels it every day with the hands, the feet or both. A single side frame covers every front seat height from 13.5 to 20.5 inches (34.3 to 52.1 cm), so a shorter person or someone who steers with a foot does not need a separate hemi frame. Seat width, depth, back angle, axle position, wheels, casters and frame colour are all chosen on Future Mobility's order form, and the chair folds side to side for the car.

Description

The Future Mobility Stellato II, also called the Stellato 2, is a folding wheelchair built to order for an adult who self-propels.

Who it suits, and who should choose something else

  • Firm floors only, not sand, loose soil or rough ground, and slopes no steeper than 10%.
  • The order form says 265 lbs (120 kg), and the 2018 manual says 275 lbs (125 kg), so we confirm before you order. Use 265 lbs until then.
  • Not the original Stellato. One frame covers the low seat. Over the limit: bariatric wheelchairs. For tilt: tilt-in-space wheelchairs.

Check the fit

  • A 22 inch depth line repeats the 21 inch part code, so we confirm before you order.
  • The 13.5" front seat uses 4" casters, before the cushion. The seat can be level, or 1" or 2" lower at the rear.
  • The back folds only with flip-down canes. A 2022 brochure lists 31 lbs (14 kg) and does not say which parts that includes.
  • Measure hip width, hip to knee, and knee to heel in your usual shoes, or book a free home assessment.

Safe use

  • Never lift it by the armrests or footrests. Keep the footrests at least 2" (5 cm) off the ground. A 3/4 inch drop can stop a caster.
  • Anti-tippers are fixed as standard, set 1 1/2" to 2" off the ground. Wheel locks must press 1/8" into the tire and must not slow the chair.
  • A quick-release axle is locked only when the button pops fully out. Standard axles are fixed. Move to a vehicle seat. The tie-down is marked unoccupied, and a positioning belt is not a vehicle restraint.
  • Elevating legrests are optional, and not with composite or adjustable footplates on 6, 7 or 8 inch casters. Order a cushion on the form.

Compare

The Move adds a heavy-duty kit. The NRG+ Gold is rated lower: see all Type 2 wheelchairs.
