Description
The Prism TrueFitt Back is Future Mobility's shapeable rigid back: an aluminium shell with removable 2 x 2 in foam cubes and built-in laterals.
What does it do and how does it work?
- Foam cubes: 2 x 2 in (51 x 51 mm) cubes on hook and loop, under a 1/2 in support layer and a 1/2 in comfort layer; cubes can be lifted out, trimmed and refitted.
- Laterals: built into the shell; the gap between them is 15, 16 or 17 in (381, 406 or 432 mm) on a 16, 18 or 20 in chair.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- Positioning: Future Mobility makes it for positioning needs, naming kyphosis, lordosis, scoliosis and a protruding gibbus as examples.
- Assessment first: an occupational therapist or physiotherapist sets the size, the depth and the angle.
Will it fit?
- Sizes: 16, 17, 18 or 20 in wide and 16, 18 or 20 in high; 16x16 and eight non-standard pairs are offered, so confirm the pair.
- Custom: up to 20 in wide from 11 in high, by quote; stock and bariatric sizes are separate.
- Chair width: standard pins fit the same width; longer pins for a chair 1 or 2 in (25 or 51 mm) wider are separate, after a clinical check.
- Back posts: 1 in (25 mm) clamps, or 7/8 in (22 mm) with matching inserts.
- Capacity: 250 lbs (113 kg); 5.5 lbs at 18 x 16 in.
Using it day to day
- Mounting and removal: clamps on both posts carry plates, and pins on the shell latch in; push the left lever down until it latches open and push the right, and the lower pins eject so the back lifts out.
- Adjustment: height on the posts; depth within 5 in (127 mm); angle 15 degrees forward to 20 degrees back, set with the user seated. A rearward position reduces rearward stability, so reassess after a change.
- Shaping: remove the cover and outer pad, mark and trim the cubes with a knife or scissors, and refit; a foam saw cuts cleanest.
- Care: wash the 4-way stretch or Infection Control cover cold on a gentle cycle, no softener or bleach, and air dry it in the shade; wipe the shell, and use the back only with an intact cover.
- Warranty: 3 years on the back, 1 year on hardware and 90 days on the cover, for the original purchaser.

How does it compare?

Frequently asked questions
Will it fit a wheelchair with 7/8 in back posts?
Inserts adapt the 1 in (25 mm) clamps to 7/8 in (22 mm) posts. Confirm the kit and post shape with the fitter before ordering.
My wheelchair is wider than the back. Will it still fit?
It can fit a chair 1 or 2 in wider with longer pins sold separately. A clinician must confirm post compatibility, mounting and wheelchair stability.
What is the difference between the Prism TrueFitt and the Prism Ultra?
TrueFitt has removable foam cubes that can be trimmed for the person. Ultra uses a replaceable foam pad with built-in 6 in laterals; assess the choice clinically.

Future Mobility Healthcare warrants the Prism TrueFitt back to be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use by the original purchaser.
- Back: 3 years.
- Hardware: 1 year.
- Cover: 90 days.
- Covers the original purchaser only. Defective parts are repaired or replaced at Future Mobility's discretion; labour and shipping are not included.
- Excludes normal wear, not following the instructions, negligence, accident, improper use, maintenance or storage, and unauthorized parts, modifications or repairs.
- Claims go through the dealer that sold the back.
