Description
Serene Air is a 5 Minds Mobility powered air surface, distributed in Canada by Permobil. SERA36 is the 36-inch package; the 42 and 48-inch systems have separate part numbers and capacities.
Who is it for?
- 5 Minds Mobility calls it suitable for vulnerable clients at high to very high risk for pressure injuries.
- A nurse, doctor or therapist decides whether alternating, pulsation or static mode fits the care plan.
- SERA36 is rated 400 lbs (181 kg); SERA42 and SERA48 have their own limits, up to 920 lbs (417 kg) on the 48-inch.
How does it work?
- Two active modes: alternating pressure therapy or pulsation; a constant low-pressure static setting is also available.
- Alternating pressure runs in 5, 10, 15 or 20 minute cycles. Pulsation changes the air volume every 15 seconds.
- Max inflate and seat inflation for the Fowler position support care and transfers.
- The blower delivers more than 120 L/min for microclimate control, and initial inflation takes under three minutes.
- The settings auto-lock after five minutes, and the CPR release valve sits at the control pump.
- A zippered full-length pocket holds a one-inch foam base; the quilted Silver+ nylon cover is fluid-resistant and zips off in one step.
Will it fit?
- SERA36 measures 36 x 79 x 8 in (91 x 201 x 20 cm); an optional gap filler extends the surface to 84 in (213 cm).
- The 8 in (20 cm) height sets transfer height and rail gaps. Health Canada advises gaps under 120 mm (4 3/4 in) in zones 1 to 3 and 60 mm (2 3/8 in) in zone 4, and warns that air surfaces compress. Check the gap at the bed rails after inflation.
- Measure the deck first; a home assessment can check it.
What happens in a power cut?
- The active modes stop without electricity; the one-inch foam base is passive support, not continued therapy.
- The care team's outage and repositioning plan still applies.
How does it compare?

Frequently asked questions
Is Serene Edge the same mattress?
No. Serene Edge has a firm transfer edge and a different construction; the standard Serene Air does not include that edge.
Is it 79 or 80 inches long?
Published lengths are 79 in (201 cm) and 78 in (198 cm). We confirm the delivered length against the deck before you order.
Does SERA36 include the blower?
Yes. The package is the air surface, blower, top and bottom covers and carrying bag; the bed frame is separate.
