Description
The Drive Med-Aire 5, item 14025NS, is a powered five-inch air overlay that sits on an existing foam or innerspring mattress. It is 36 by 80 in and rated 350 lbs (159 kg); it does not replace the base mattress.
What does it do and how does it work?
- Seventeen individual 5 in air cells alternate on a 10-minute cycle while low air loss moves moisture away from the skin.
- Static mode stops the alternation; the three head cells stay inflated as a pillow feature for head stability.
- An adjustable patient weight setting tunes immersion and comfort.
- A visual alarm signals low air pressure, and a CPR valve deflates the overlay quickly.
- EZ Lock quick-release tubing separates the overlay from the control unit for cleaning or service.
Who is it for?
- Drive states it is designed to prevent, treat and heal pressure injuries in home or long-term care; the care team decides.
- It adds powered therapy to a base mattress that is still in good condition.
- Where the whole mattress needs replacing, a powered replacement such as the Med-Aire 14027 is the other route.
Will it fit the bed?
- 36 in wide, 80 in long and 5 in deep, so the sleep surface rises by about 5 in over the base mattress.
- Do not put it on an empty deck or on another air mattress; Drive specifies a standard foam or innerspring mattress underneath.
- 350 lbs (159 kg) is the overlay's rating; the base mattress, frame and rails must also suit the person.
- Measure the total height, then check the rail gaps. Health Canada recommends under 120 mm (4 3/4 in) within and under the rail, and under 60 mm (2 3/8 in) at the rail ends. See bed rails.
- An overlay that has touched skin cannot be returned. Measure first and read the return policy.
How is it cared for?
- The removable nylon cover is fluid resistant, low shear and vapour permeable, with a nylon/PU top and a nylon/PVC base.
- The 5 in cells lift out individually for service; check the tubing connections at each linen change.

Does the Med-Aire 5 replace my mattress?
No. Item 14025NS is an overlay for a standard foam or innerspring mattress. The existing mattress stays in place and the overlay adds five inches on top.
Can it go on an air mattress or an empty deck?
No. Drive specifies a standard foam or innerspring mattress underneath, not another air surface and not a bare deck.
Why do three head cells stay still?
They form a pillow feature that stays inflated in static mode, giving a stable area at the head of the bed while the other cells alternate.
What does the 350 lb rating cover?
The overlay only. The base mattress, bed frame and rails each carry their own limits, so the lowest one applies.
