Med-Aire Plus 8 Inch Alternating Pressure Mattress System, 14029

The Drive Med-Aire Plus 14029 is a full powered mattress replacement, not an overlay. It combines alternating pressure and low air loss under a digital compressor, in 36 by 80 by 8 in or a longer 36 by 84 in.

What does it do and how does it work?

• Twenty individual 8 in air cells alternate, and low air loss moves moisture away from the skin.
• The cell-on-cell design keeps a lower row of support under the top cells to resist bottoming out.
• Four cycles: 10, 15, 20 or 25 minutes, with adjustable comfort settings and a pillow feature at the head.
• Auto Firm and Seat Inflate help with care tasks; the panel locks to stop accidental changes.
• Three diagnostic audio and visual alarms cover air pressure, the system and power.
• A CPR valve deflates the mattress quickly, and EZ Lock connectors release the tubing.
• The pump moves 8 litres a minute.

Who is it for?

• Drive states it is designed to prevent, treat and heal pressure ulcers in home or long-term care; the care team decides.
• It suits a 36 in bed deck and a person up to 450 lbs (204 kg).
• The standard 14029 has no raised defined perimeter; the 14029DP is the perimeter version.

Will it fit the bed?

• 14029 is 36 by 80 by 8 in; 14029-84 is 36 by 84 by 8 in. They are separate codes, so match the length to the deck.
• 450 lbs (204 kg) is the mattress rating; the bed frame's own safe working load applies if it is lower.
• At 8 in, check the rail gaps. Health Canada recommends under 120 mm (4 3/4 in) within and under the rail, and under 60 mm (2 3/8 in) at the rail ends. See bed rails.
• A used mattress cannot be returned. Measure first and read the return policy.

What happens in a power cut?

• Drive states the cell-on-cell design gives up to 24 hours of passive support.
• Alternation and low air loss stop without power, so the care team's outage and skin-check plan still applies.

How is it serviced?

• The cells release with quick disconnects for replacement.
• The removable four-way stretch PU cover is fluid resistant, low shear and vapour permeable.
• Wipe the cover and check the tubing and cells at each linen change.

How does it compare?

• Med-Aire 14027: a simpler 10-minute controller with a 350 lb rating.
• Med-Aire Plus 14029DP: the same 8 in system with a defined perimeter.
• Med-Aire Plus 14030: a 42 in bariatric build rated 600 lbs.
