Description
The Assure uses a foam base built into the mattress. That is the practical difference from an overlay placed on another mattress and from an all-air replacement.
Who should consider it?
- Drive labels the 14530 for the prevention, treatment and healing of pressure ulcers; that is the maker's stated use, not an individual outcome promise.
- A nurse, doctor or therapist should decide whether its alternating, static and low air loss functions match the person's care plan.
- The 350 lb rating also needs to fit the person and bed.
How does it work?
Seventeen five-inch cells sit on a three-inch foam base.
The pump alternates pressure every 10 minutes or can hold a static setting; it also supplies low air loss.
The compressor has adjustable weight settings, a 10-minute alternating cycle, a static selection and audible and visual low-pressure warnings.
What should you measure before ordering?
- The listed size is 36 x 80 x 8 inches; one maker table gives 35 inches wide, so have the actual width confirmed for a close-fitting deck.
- Have the actual width confirmed before ordering for a close-fitting deck.
- Health Canada advises checking mattress dimensions and compressed air edges with the frame and rails.
- Our home assessment can measure the deck and rail arrangement.
- Weight capacity: 350 lbs (159 kg)
What should you compare?
- The Med-Aire 5 is an overlay that needs a separate base mattress.
- The Med-Aire 14027 is an eight-inch full replacement with air cells rather than Assure's three-inch foam base.
See medical mattresses for other styles.
Once a mattress touches skin or is used, it cannot be returned under our return policy.
Frequently asked questions
What happens when power is lost?
The foam base remains beneath the air cells, but powered alternation and low air loss stop. The caregiver should follow the supplied instructions and the person's clinical outage plan.
Does Assure need another mattress underneath?
No. The 14530 has its own three-inch foam base below the five-inch air section. It is a full mattress replacement.
What modes does the control unit provide?
The 14530 alternates on a 10-minute cycle and can be set to static mode. The compressor also provides low air loss and adjustable weight settings.
