Description

The Blake Geo-Matrix G1 Dual Zone (G1MFD3680 at 36" x 80") is a 6" (15 cm) gel foam mattress for a hospital bed, with gel at the coccyx and the heels and no pump.

What does it do and how does it work?

  • A 1.5" (3.8 cm) Geo-Matrix gel insert sits at the coccyx. Blake says it lowers peak pressure and shear when the head of the bed is raised.
  • A 0.75" (1.9 cm) pillow-top gel insert sits at the heels, for pressure, friction and shear.
  • Under the gel: a dual-density polyurethane base, a 5 lb memory foam core, and a firm foam border for transfers.
  • The cover is 4-way stretch, antimicrobial, fluid-proof and wipeable, with nylon quilting.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

  • Blake states it maintains skin health and aids healing of stage I to II pressure injuries (redness or a superficial wound).
  • A nurse, doctor or therapist decides whether two gel zones are enough.
  • Choose the G2 for gel along the whole mattress, the Infusion for gel mixed into foam when the person still moves, or alternating pressure for a pump.

Will it fit?

  • Standard size is 36" x 80" x 6" (91 x 203 x 15 cm). Other widths are 39", 42", 48", 54" and 60" (99, 107, 122, 137 and 152 cm), each 80" long.
  • Many homecare hospital beds use a 36" x 80" deck.
  • Stock capacity is 300 lbs (136 kg). Custom capacity is 500 lbs (227 kg). A lower bed rating applies.
  • Health Canada recommends gaps under 120 mm (4 3/4 in) within the rail and between the rail and the mattress, and under 60 mm (2 3/8 in) at the rail ends. Check this height with the rails.
  • Confirm the width before you order. A mattress that has touched skin cannot be returned. See the return policy.

Using it day to day

  • Lay it on the bare deck. Wipe the cover, or machine wash it to 60 C and hang it to dry. Do not use bleach, and do not wet the foam. Spare cover G1DRC3680 fits 36" x 80". Match any spare to the width. The firm border is foam, not a rail.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

  • It replaces the mattress. It is not a topper, and a power cut cannot deflate it.
  • For a wheelchair, see the Geo-Matrix Bronze cushion. Warranty is 5 years on the mattress and 1 year on the cover: see warranty.

Which version should I choose?

  • G1MFD3680 is 36" wide. Wider decks take 39", 42" or 48". A bariatric deck takes 54" or 60", still 80" long. Order 500 lbs (227 kg) only when the care plan needs it.

How does it compare?

  • The G2 runs gel the full length, deeper at the coccyx, still at 300 lbs (136 kg).
  • The Infusion is a 2" gel-infused foam topper on a foam base, rated 350 lbs (160 kg), with no gel columns. See other gel mattresses.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a topper on another mattress?

No. It is a 6" (15 cm) replacement. Take the old mattress off first.

Will it fit an 84 inch deck?

No. Every width is 80" (203 cm) long.

Does the firm edge stop entrapment?

No. The border is foam for transfers. Check rail gaps on the bed.
