Description
The Drive PreserveTech Med-Aire Edge, item 14360-B, is a powered alternating pressure and low air loss mattress replacement, 36 by 80 by 8 in (91 by 203 by 20 cm), rated 450 lbs (204 kg).
What does it do and how does it work?
- Twenty individual 5 in air cells, with a pillow feature at the head, sit over a 3 in foam base.
- An 8 in firm foam perimeter supports transfers, and the foam base supports the person during a power outage.
- The analog controller runs a 10-minute alternating cycle and a static mode, with a dial that sets comfort by weight.
- An audio and visual alarm sounds when air pressure is low, and a CPR valve deflates the surface quickly.
- The quilted 4-way stretch cover is removable, machine washable, fluid resistant, low shear, vapour permeable and antimicrobial.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- Drive lists it to help prevent, treat and heal pressure injuries in home or long-term care; the care team decides.
- A person up to 450 lbs (204 kg) on a 36 by 80 in deck.
- A wider deck needs a different model.
Will it fit?
- 36 in wide (91 cm), 80 in long (203 cm) and 8 in high (20 cm), with 5 in air cells on the 3 in foam base.
- The 450 lbs (204 kg) limit is the mattress rating; the bed frame's own safe working load applies if it is lower.
- At 8 in high, recheck the gaps to the rails. Health Canada recommends gaps under 120 mm (4 3/4 in) within and under the rail, and under 60 mm (2 3/8 in) at the rail ends. See bed rails.
- A mattress that has touched skin cannot be returned, so measure first. See the return policy.
Using it day to day
- Set the comfort dial and choose alternating or static mode as the care team directs.
- In a power failure the powered therapy stops; the 3 in foam base and 8 in perimeter continue to support the person.
- For CPR, open the CPR valve.
- Remove and machine wash the cover; check the cells and tubing at each linen change.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- Item 14360-B is the analog kit; the digital 14360-P kit has four cycle times and additional care features.
- The foam perimeter is part of the mattress, not a bed rail.
- The tubing uses quick-release connectors for servicing.
How does it compare?
- Domus 4 Edge: a powered surface with 3 in foam transfer edges.
- Med-Aire Plus 14029DP: a 10 in defined-perimeter air surface.
- Alternating pressure mattresses: the category.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a full mattress or an overlay?
A full replacement surface: remove the old mattress and fit this 36 by 80 in unit to the deck.
What is the difference between 14360-B and 14360-P?
14360-B uses the analog controller; 14360-P is the digital kit with four cycle times and more care features.
What happens in a power failure?
The powered therapy stops; the 3 in foam base and 8 in perimeter give passive support.
Are the side bolsters bed rails?
No. The perimeter is foam inside the mattress, not a guard rail.
