Description
The Drive Lightweight Expedition (EXP19LT) is an aluminum transport chair with a 19 in seat, built for a companion to push.
What does it do and how does it work?
- Aluminum frame at 19 lb (8.6 kg); the back folds down on release levers and the frame folds flat.
- 12 in (30 cm) rear flat-free wheels with solid tires on bolted axles, larger than the 8 in wheels on Drive's basic transport chair.
- Loop-lock levers on both push handles, cabled to the rear wheel locks, so the companion does not bend down.
- Full-length padded armrests fixed to the frame; swing-away footrests lift off and adjust for length.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- An adult up to 300 lb (136 kg) who is pushed on errands and car trips.
- Flip-back arms: the Airgo Comfort-Plus XC. Self-propelling: the Poly Fly TR18.
- A 17 in seat: the aluminum transport chair. Over 300 lb: the 22 inch bariatric aluminum transport chair.
Will it fit?
- Seat 19 in wide by 16 in deep (48 by 41 cm), 19 in (48 cm) from the floor; back 18 in (46 cm).
- Open 38 by 22 by 38 in (97 by 56 by 97 cm) with footrests; folded 38 by 10.75 by 29 in (97 by 27 by 74 cm).
- Measure hip width, hip to knee, and knee to heel in shoes.
Using it day to day
- To open, tilt the chair and push down on the seat rails; lift the back and its lock engages.
- To fold, pull up both back locks together; the footrests swing outward and lift off.
- Engage both wheel locks and turn the casters forward before a transfer; do not step on the footplates.
- Keep the footrests at least 2.5 in (6 cm) off the ground; wipe the frame weekly, dry it if wet and wax the metal monthly.
- Check the wheels monthly and remove side play at the axle lock nut.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- A companion must operate it. Never use it as a seat in a motor vehicle.
- The rider and anything carried must total no more than 300 lb (136 kg).
- No elevating legrests and no heel loops; the seat belt is fitted and should not be removed.
- Warranty: limited lifetime for the original buyer, excluding casters, grips and rubber parts; footrests 60 days. See the Warranty tab.
Which version should I choose?
- Frame colour: blue or red, each with black upholstery.
- One seat size only: 19 in.
How does it compare?
- ATC17: 8 in wheels and a 17 in seat.
- Airgo Comfort-Plus XC: flip-back arms and hand brakes.
- Transport wheelchairs: the full range.
