Description
The Drive Steel Transport Chair TR37E-SV is a 17 in (43 cm) folding transport chair in a silver vein steel frame, pushed by a companion.
What does it do, and how does it work?
- 8 in (20 cm) wheels front and rear with solid rubber tires and no hand rims, so the rider cannot self-propel.
- A wheel lock on each rear wheel and a padded, fixed, full-length arm on each side.
- The back folds down, and the frame folds side to side using the handle on the seat.
- Swing-away footrests lift off and adjust in length.
- 26 lbs (11.8 kg).
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- An adult up to 250 lbs (113 kg) who is pushed; the chair needs an attendant.
- A wider seat: the TR39E-SV. Lighter, with 300 lbs: the aluminum transport chair.
- Self-propel: the Poly Fly TR18. Over 250 lbs (113 kg): bariatric wheelchairs.
Will it fit?
- Seat 17 in (43 cm) wide by 16 in (41 cm) deep, 19 in (48 cm) from the floor, with an 18 in (46 cm) back.
- 15.5 in (39 cm) between the fixed arms; the arms sit 10 in (25 cm) above the seat.
- Open with footrests: 33 in long by 21.5 in wide by 39 in high (84 x 55 x 99 cm).
- Folded without footrests: 23 x 9 x 30.5 in (58 x 23 x 77 cm).
- Measure hip width, hip to knee and knee to heel in shoes, or book a free home assessment.
Using it day to day
- Set both wheel locks against the rear tires and turn the casters forward before a transfer.
- The arms do not come off, so transfers are from the front.
- Fold the back by lifting both locks; open the chair by tilting it to one side and pressing on the seat rails.
- Line up the footrest holes with the frame pegs and set the length with the rider seated, keeping the lowest point 2.5 in (6.4 cm) off the floor.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- 250 lbs (113 kg). The chair is not a seat in a motor vehicle and must not be used without an attendant.
- Leaning out without help can tip it; do not step on the footplates and ask a professional about ramps.
- There are no hand brakes; the two rear wheel locks are the brakes.
- The seat belt is attached and should not be removed.
- No elevating legrests are available, and no cushion is included; add a 17 x 16 in cushion.
Which version should I choose?
- This is the 17 in seat; the TR39E-SV is the 19 in.
- One finish: silver vein frame with black nylon upholstery.
How does it compare?
- The aluminum transport chair weighs 19 lbs (8.6 kg) and takes 300 lbs.
- The Expedition adds 12 in rear wheels and hand brakes and weighs 19 lbs (8.6 kg).
Frequently asked questions
How is it different from a wheelchair?
A wheelchair has large rear wheels and hand rims for self-propelling; this one has small wheels and a companion pushes.
Can I add a cup holder?
Yes; Drive's STDS1040S swivel cup holder is sold separately and is not fitted on the chair.
Where do I find parts?
Drive's parts diagram covers both widths; the serial number is on the cross frame beneath the seat.
