Description
The Drive Viper Jr L412DDA-ELR is a paediatric folding wheelchair with a 12 by 12 inch seat, elevating legrests and flip-back desk arms.
What does it do and how does it work?
It is a self-propelled chair for a child, built on a carbon steel frame rated to 250 lb (113 kg).
- Flip-back desk arms lift out to clear a transfer.
- Swing-away elevating legrests have composite footplates with heel loops and tool-free length adjustment.
- Composite mag-style rear wheels have aluminum hand rims; 8 inch (20 cm) casters have three height positions.
- Push-to-lock wheel locks and flip-up anti-tippers are standard.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
It suits a child who fits a 12 inch seat and can push the hand rims, with an adult nearby.
- Choose it when the legs need raised support: lift the footplate and the legrest locks.
- Step up to the 14 inch Viper Jr (L414DDA-ELR) when the seat is outgrown.
Will it fit?
Measure the child seated: hip width, and back of the hips to the back of the knee.
- Seat: 12 by 12 inch (30 by 30 cm).
- Open: 36 inch (91 cm) long and 20 inch (51 cm) wide.
- Seat to floor: 15.5 to 17.5 inch (39 to 44 cm) on the dual axle.
- Back height: 16 to 18 inch (41 to 46 cm).
- Folded: 36 by 12 by 32 inch (91 by 30 by 81 cm); weight 30 lb (13.6 kg).
Using it day to day
Tilt the chair and push down on the seat rail to open it.
- To fold, turn the footplates vertical and lift the seat at the front and back edges.
- The arms lift out and the legrests swing out and lift off for travel.
- Keep footplates at least 2.5 inch (6 cm) off the ground and lock both wheels before a transfer.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
It carries one child up to 250 lb (113 kg), and it is not a vehicle seat.
- Transfer the child to a vehicle seat and use the vehicle's restraints.
- Do not use it on roadways; on an incline of 10% or more, use a helper.
- Before reaching or leaning, point the casters forward and engage the wheel locks.
- The seat is a nylon sling with no cushion; add one sized 12 by 12 inch from our wheelchair cushions.
Which version should I choose?
This is the 12 inch elevating model. L412DDA-SF has swing-away footrests; L414DDA-ELR and L414DDA-SF have the 14 inch seat.
How does it compare?
- Drive Viper Plus GT: an adult folding chair with a wider seat.
- Ezee Life 18 inch wheelchair: an adult chair, not a paediatric fit.
- Transport chairs: easier to push, but no self-propulsion.
Frequently asked questions
Can the seat height change as the child grows?
Yes. The dual axle sets the seat between 15.5 and 17.5 inch (39 and 44 cm), with three caster positions.
Do the legrests come off for travel?
Yes. Push the rigging lever, swing the legrest out, then lift it off its receiver.
Is the warranty transferable if I resell the chair?
No. The limited lifetime warranty covers the original purchaser and excludes casters, grips and rubber parts.
