Description
The Drive Sentra STD20DDA is a heavy-duty folding wheelchair with a 20 inch seat, rated for 500 lbs (227 kg), in 20, 22 and 24 inch widths with footrests or elevating legrests.
What does it do, and how does it work?
- Carbon steel frame in silver vein, with steel gussets at weight-bearing points and dual cross bars.
- 24 in (61 cm) composite mag wheels with sealed bearings; rear axles bolt on, not quick release.
- Heavy-gauge black naugahyde seat and back, with a carry pocket.
- Padded desk-length arms lift out on a spring button.
- Swing-away footrests with tool-free length adjustment, or elevating legrests.
- Push-to-lock wheel locks on both rear wheels; 8 in (20 cm) extensions optional.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- An adult up to 500 lbs (227 kg) who wants a wider seat and can self-propel or be pushed.
- A lighter companion chair: the ATC22-R or the BTR22-R.
- Over 500 lbs or wider than 24 in: the 26 to 30 in Sentra EC in bariatric wheelchairs.
- For tilt, see tilt-in-space chairs; this one does not tilt.
Will it fit?
- Seat 20, 22 or 24 in (51, 56 or 61 cm) wide, 18 in (46 cm) deep; back 18 in; seat to floor 19 to 21 in (48 to 53 cm).
- Open 29, 31 or 32.5 in (74, 79 or 83 cm); 42 in (107 cm) long; folded 13 in (33 cm) wide.
- Chair weight 54, 56 or 66.25 lbs (24.5, 25.4 or 30.1 kg).
- Measure hip width, hip to knee and knee to heel in shoes, or book a free home assessment.
Using it day to day
- To fold, raise the footplates and lift the seat from the front and back.
- Lock both wheels before every transfer and turn the casters forward before reaching.
- Inspect the rear wheels monthly, tighten the axle bolt if loose, and lubricate the casters.
- On an incline, ask for help, keep the chair straight and do not use the locks to slow down.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- It is not a vehicle seat; transfer to a vehicle seat and keep it off roadways.
- Do not stand on the footrests or lean on the back.
- A cushion, seat belt and anti-tippers are not included.
- Cushions run 20, 22 or 24 in by 18 in deep.
Which version should I choose?
- The 22 and 24 in add 2 and 12.25 lbs (0.9 and 5.6 kg) to the 20 in chair.
- Swing-away footrests suit standing transfers; elevating legrests add a raised leg position.
How does it compare?
- The ATC22-R is a 33 lb (15 kg) aluminum companion chair.
- The BTR22-R is steel and narrower, at 26.5 in (67 cm) open.
- For a lower user weight, see standard wheelchairs.
