Description
The Drive ShearCare 1500 is a 6 in (15 cm) non-powered bariatric foam mattress for a 42 or 48 in wide deck, 80 in long, with two foam layers and a separate heel section.
What does it do and how does it work?
- A full-width high-resilient, high-density die-cut top layer spreads load, and a high-density bottom layer adds support and stability.
- A separate patented LuraQuilt foam heel section takes pressure off the heels.
- The cover is removable, fluid resistant, low shear and vapour permeable.
- There is no pump and no power connection.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- A person whose care team recommends a pressure-redistribution foam surface; Drive describes pressure redistribution and shear and friction reduction.
- A bariatric deck 42 or 48 in wide.
- A 36 in homecare bed needs a narrower mattress; see foam mattresses.
- Someone who needs alternating pressure or low air loss needs a powered surface.
Will it fit?
- Widths: 42 in (107 cm) or 48 in (122 cm). Length 80 in (203 cm), height 6 in (15 cm).
- The 42 in is rated 650 lbs (295 kg); the 48 in is rated 750 lbs (340 kg). The lower of that rating and the bed's safe working load applies.
- These two items have no raised side edges, and there is no 84 in length.
- At 6 in high, recheck the gaps to the rails. Health Canada recommends gaps under 120 mm (4 3/4 in) within and under the rail, and under 60 mm (2 3/8 in) at the rail ends. See bed rails.
- A mattress that has touched skin cannot be returned, so measure first. See the return policy.
Using it day to day
- The cover is removable; wipe it clean and check the foam at each linen change.
- Replacement covers are CPU64280 for the 42 in and CPU64880 for the 48 in.
- Keep sharp objects off the cover to avoid punctures.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- It is a non-powered foam mattress: no pump, alternating cycle or low air loss.
- It has no raised side edges and does not act as a rail.

Will it fit a standard 36 inch hospital bed?
No. A common homecare deck is about 36 in wide; this mattress is 42 or 48 in wide and 80 in long.
Does this mattress have raised side edges or rails?
No. Neither stocked size has raised side edges. A raised-edge build is a custom order we do not stock.
What is the heel section?
A separate patented LuraQuilt foam zone sits under the heels and takes pressure off that area.
Is the 48 inch rated 750 lbs?
Yes. The 48 in width is rated 750 lbs (340 kg) and the 42 in is 650 lbs (295 kg).
