Description
The Blake Medical Geo-Matrix gel overlay is a dry-polymer gel pad, 1.5 in (3.8 cm) thick, that sits on an existing foam mattress. It does not replace the mattress. The 36 x 80 in size (91 x 203 cm) is GMO3680 and comes with its own cover.
How does the gel work?
Blake forms the gel into open hexagonal columns.
- Each column carries its share of the weight, then collapses so the body sinks gently into the surface.
- Load passes to the neighbouring columns around bony points.
- The separate columns reduce shear when a person moves or is transferred.
- Blake states the overlay is intended for maintenance of skin health and treatment of early-stage, non-complex pressure ulcers.
A nurse, doctor or therapist decides whether this surface suits the person's skin and risk.
Will it fit?
The overlay adds its height to the mattress below, so check the combined surface.
- 36 x 80 in is standard; 39, 42, 48, 54 and 60 in widths are made to order, and custom sizes are available.
- Add 1.5 in (3.8 cm) to the mattress when measuring transfer height and rail gaps. Health Canada advises gaps under 120 mm (4 3/4 in) in zones 1 to 3 and 60 mm (2 3/8 in) in zone 4.
- Keep the foam base in good condition; never place the overlay on a bare deck.
- The bed's safe working load still applies.
How is it cleaned?
The cover is four-way stretch, fluid-proof and anti-microbial.
- Wipe spills with soap and water. The cover can be machine washed up to 60 °C, not wrung, and laid flat to dry.
- The gel cannot go in a washing machine. Wipe it with mild detergent and air dry with the cells facing down, out of direct sunlight.
- Do not use bleach on any Geo-Matrix product.
What should I compare?
