Toronto and the GTA

A transport wheelchair is a chair designed to be pushed by a companion. Mobility Specialties helps Toronto, Brampton, Mississauga and GTA customers discuss transport chair rentals for appointments, visits and temporary mobility needs. Confirm the chair, seat fit, caregiver assistance, requested dates and written quote before booking.

What should you check before renting a transport wheelchair?

A folding or lightweight label does not establish fit. Review the supplied chair, the assistance available and the whole journey before agreeing to the rental.

Seat fit and companion assistance

Check usable width between the arms, seat depth, foot support and the exact manufacturer capacity. Discuss cushion or positioning requirements with the care team. Identify who will push and assist with transfers, and arrange instruction for the supplied chair.

Doorways, surfaces and brakes

Measure narrow doorways and turns. Describe thresholds, ramps, steps and the surfaces along your route. Review the exact chair instructions and brake functions with the team; wheel locks and attendant brakes are not interchangeable. Ask for professional guidance on transfers and ramps.

Folded size and vehicle loading

Measure the trunk or boot opening and usable storage space. Confirm folded dimensions, any removable components, each lifting weight and who will load them. Plan the transfer separately. Do not assume a transport chair is approved as an occupied vehicle seat.

Planning and manufacturer guidance: Drive Medical example of model-specific transport chair dimensions and owner instructions (reviewed 17 October 2026). Follow the instructions for the exact model.

How much does a transport wheelchair rental cost?

Ask for a current written quote for the available chair and requested dates. Confirm the billing period, minimum term, any deposit, taxes, supplied foot supports or cushion, and separate delivery, setup or collection charges. Review service, extension, cancellation and return terms before booking. A transport chair purchase price is not a rental rate.

How does a rental enquiry work?

Describe the person, companion and planned journey. Review an available chair and quote, then confirm the rental arrangements directly with the team.

  1. 1. Share your dates and requirements

Give the requested start date, estimated duration and postal code. Include seat and foot-support needs, who will push, access measurements and any vehicle loading or carrier travel.

  2. 2. Review the proposed chair

Confirm seat dimensions, manufacturer limits, brakes, folded size, lifting weights and supplied components. Review the quote, familiarisation and collection or delivery arrangements.

  3. 3. Agree the booking and return

An enquiry does not reserve a chair. Confirm availability and written terms with the team. Keep the chair instructions, equipment support contact and extension or return arrangements with the agreement.

Transport wheelchair rental questions

Where can I enquire about transport wheelchair rental near Toronto?

Contact Mobility Specialties through this enquiry or the telephone number below. Our showrooms are in Etobicoke and Brampton, and we review rental enquiries from Toronto, Mississauga and the GTA. Give the dates, postal code and seating or access requirements so the chair and arrangements can be checked.

Find local rental support
How much does it cost to rent a transport chair?

Request a current written quote for the chair and dates. Confirm the billing period, minimum term, any deposit, taxes and which foot supports or other components are included. Ask about separate delivery, setup or collection charges, plus the service and return terms.

Request a current rental quote
How is a transport chair different from a self-propelled wheelchair?

A typical transport chair has small rear wheels and is pushed by a companion. A self-propelled manual wheelchair has a different wheel arrangement that the user may propel. Some combination chairs have more than one configuration. If independent propulsion is needed, discuss the exact chair and seating requirements rather than choosing by a folding label.

Compare wheelchair rental options
Can I ask for a lightweight folding transport chair rental?

Yes. Tell the team that folding, lifting or compact storage is a requirement. Confirm which chair is available for your dates, its actual folded dimensions, any removable parts and the weight of each part to be lifted. Lightweight is not a single weight or a guarantee that a companion can load it.

Prepare loading measurements
Can I enquire about a daily, weekly or monthly rental?

Give the dates and estimated duration you need. Ask which billing period and minimum term apply to the available chair, and how extensions, early returns or cancellation are handled. The team confirms the rental period and charges in writing before a booking is agreed.

Discuss your rental dates
Will the chair fit through my doorway and into my car?

Measure the narrowest doorway and turning space, then compare them with the exact open chair dimensions. For storage in a vehicle, check the folded chair and components against the opening and usable space. Confirm lifting weights and handling arrangements. A folding chair does not automatically fit every car.

Review doors and vehicle loading
Can the person stay in the transport wheelchair during a car journey?

Do not assume so. Check the exact manufacturer transport instructions and the vehicle or transport operator requirements. Some transport chair manuals expressly prohibit use as an automobile seat. Plan transfers and suitable vehicle seating with the care team and operator before travelling.

Plan the complete journey
Are a cushion, footrests, bag or particular seat width included?

Ask the written quote to identify the exact chair, seat dimensions, foot supports and any cushion or accessories supplied. Review those components against individual requirements with the care team where needed. A photo or purchase catalogue listing does not establish the rental package.

Confirm the supplied chair
Can I arrange pickup or delivery in Brampton and Mississauga?

Share the address, requested dates and building access details. Confirm the applicable collection or delivery arrangement, what setup and instruction include, and which charges apply. An enquiry is not a reserved chair or a delivery appointment.

Plan collection or delivery
Is a transport chair suitable for ramps, uneven paths or extended sitting?

Describe the route, surfaces, sitting time and assistance available. Have the exact chair and seating requirements reviewed with the care team, and follow its manufacturer operating limits. Ask for instruction on brake functions, transfers and ramps. Small wheels, a belt or a lightweight frame alone do not establish suitability.

Review route and assistance requirements
What if I need service, an extension or a return?

Ask for the equipment support contact and fault procedure when you agree the rental. Contact the team before the end date to discuss an extension or return. Confirm notice requirements, charges, the return location or collection appointment and the supplied chair cleaning instructions.
