Description
The Drive Medical RTL12079 is a free-standing toilet safety rail with padded arms, for someone who wants a handhold on both sides of the toilet without taking the seat off.
What does it do and how does it work?
The frame stands on the floor around the bowl and gives a padded arm on each side.
- Each arm fastens to its side frame with two screws. A wire magazine basket comes with the frame.
- Two U-shaped supports join the sides with thumb screws.
- The top of the arms is 25.5" (64.8 cm) from the floor. That height does not change.
- The frame weighs 9.0 lb (4.1 kg) and is rated 300 lb (136 kg).
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- Someone who uses a standard or elongated toilet and wants padded arms beside the seat.
- A wall handhold belongs on a grab bar, mounted the way that bar requires.
- If the arm height must change, the AquaSense 770-665 adjusts from 28" to 32" (71-81 cm) and is rated 250 lb (113 kg).
Will it fit?
- Overall width is 26.5" (67.3 cm), including a 1" (2.5 cm) cap on each foot. The tubes span 24.5" (62.2 cm).
- Clear width between the arms is 21" (53.3 cm).
- The base is 19" (48.3 cm) deep, outside to outside. On each side the floor tubes are 9.5" (24.1 cm) apart, and the uprights are 12.5" (31.8 cm) apart front to back.
- Set all four feet on the floor around the bowl, not on the rim. Measure that floor space, or book a free home assessment.
Using it day to day
- Put each arm on with two screws, then join the U-shaped supports with the thumb screws.
- Check those thumb screws from time to time and tighten any that have loosened.
- Bathroom safety items cannot be returned once they are used. See the return policy.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- It fits standard and elongated toilets. It is not a raised seat and not a wall bar.
- The weight limit is 300 lb (136 kg).
- It does not bolt to the seat, the floor, or the wall.
- Limited lifetime warranty for the original purchaser; see the Warranty tab. Claims go through our warranty service.
How does it compare?
- The 770-665 changes height and uses plastic arms on an aluminum frame, at 250 lb (113 kg).
- A grab bar stays on the wall when a floor frame will not fit beside the tank.
- Other frames are on the toilet safety frame page.
Frequently asked questions
Does the lifetime warranty cover the arm grips?
No. Rubber accessories, casters, and grips are expected to wear, so the limited lifetime warranty leaves them out.
Can I change the width between the arms?
No. This frame has one width, 21" (53.3 cm) between the arms, and no second setting.
Which side does the magazine basket go on?
Either side frame. Hang it on the side that stays clear of the tank and the wall.
