Description

The Drive 12005KDC-1 combines a padded transfer bench and a commode in one frame that spans the bathtub; the cushioned seat has an opening with a hanging pail.

What does it do and how does it work?

  • Seat 24 by 16 in (61 by 40.6 cm), cushioned, with a commode opening and a reversible cushioned back.
  • Aluminum A-frame with dual-column extension legs that adjust in 1/2 in (1.3 cm) steps.
  • Two extra-large suction cups on the arm side and two small rubber tips on the outside legs; the cups have pull tabs to release them.
  • One arm, which must arc outward; the back supports pass through both receptacles.
  • Pail 11106-1 slides onto the hanging bars and hooks over the back supports.
  • Tool-free push-pin assembly with a pinch-free cover; it ships knocked down and weighs 10 lb (4.5 kg).

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

It suits someone who can sit but cannot step over the tub wall, and who may also need a commode opening. Choose the 12005KD-1 for the same bench without the opening, the 12011KD-1 for a hard seat, or a bedside commode if the chair does not need to span a tub.

Will it fit?

  • Two legs go in the tub and two on the floor; measure the tub floor, wall and outside space.
  • The arm and suction-cup side goes in the tub; the rubber tips go outside.
  • Set the legs in 1/2 in (1.3 cm) steps until the seat is level, and press the cups onto a smooth tub floor.
  • A free home assessment can measure the tub and the transfer.

Using it day to day

  • Assemble the legs, the back through both receptacles and the arm with the push pins.
  • Sit on the outside half, swing the legs over the wall, and slide across to the inside half.
  • Hook the pail over the back supports and slide it onto the bars; lift it off to empty.
  • Wipe the seat and back, and clean the suction cups.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

  • 400 lb (181 kg), for sitting; it is not a step or a standing aid.
  • The suction cups need a smooth tub floor; a textured or coated floor may not hold them.
  • One arm only, on the tub side, and the back must sit in both receptacles.
  • It ships knocked down and is not described as folding flat.
  • Limited lifetime warranty; see the Warranty tab.

How does it compare?
