Description
The Drive Panther is a heavy four-wheel scooter with front and rear suspension. The two 50 Ah batteries come with it. Drive marks the speed and range as estimates.
Who it suits, and who should choose something else
- A rider up to 425 lbs (193 kg) who wants lights, mirrors and a captain's seat, and who is not lifting this into a car.
- Ground clearance is 4 in (102 mm). The climbing angle is 7.5 degrees. Width is 26 in (66 cm).
- Total weight is 264 lbs (120 kg): base 145 lbs, battery pair 64 lbs, seat 55 lbs. See travel scooters if the pieces have to go in a trunk.
- If you need a cushion or back support for posture, ask your therapist about a power wheelchair.
How it drives
- Length 56 in (142 cm), height 53 in (135 cm). Turning radius 53 in (135 cm). Estimated top speed 12.9 km/h (8 mph); estimated range 40 km (25 mi).
- Captain's seat, 22 in wide and 20 in deep with a 22 in back, a headrest, slider, swivel and recline. The seat is 55 lbs and its height adjusts on the seat post.
- 14 by 3 in pneumatic tires, front and rear, with 2.5 in anti-tip wheels. LED headlight, parking lights, turn signals and tail lights. Two mirrors.
- A 24 V, 800 W motor drives the rear wheels through a 120 A controller. Electromagnetic brakes include a park brake, and a freewheel mode lets you push it with the power off. Do not ride in freewheel.
- Colour is red.
Batteries come with it
- Two 12 V 50 Ah sealed lead-acid batteries, 64 lbs the pair, and a 5 amp off-board charger that plugs into the tiller console.
- Allow 8 to 12 hours for a new or flat pair, or 10 to 14 hours once a week if the scooter is only used now and then.
- The console has a key switch, speed dial, battery gauge, headlight, hazard lights, turn signals, horn and the charge port; the tiller adjusts through its arc on one lever.
- The seat lifts off and the tiller folds down, but the batteries are a workshop job with tools. We replace worn batteries.
Frequently asked questions
Is the 40 km range a promise?
No. Drive marks both the 40 km range and the 12.9 km/h speed as estimates. Rider weight, hills and tire pressure change them.
Can I take the batteries out to lighten it?
The pair is 64 lbs and the seat is another 55 lbs. Even then the base is 145 lbs. This is not a travel scooter.
Does it have a freewheel?
Yes. Freewheel lets someone push it. The brakes are off in that mode, so do not sit on it on a slope while it is in freewheel.
How long does charging take?
8 to 12 hours for a new or flat pair, or 10 to 14 hours once a week for occasional use.

Warranty details
Drive Medical warrants the Panther heavy-duty 4-wheel scooter to the original purchaser against defects in materials and workmanship.
- Main frame, seat post, platform and frame welds: limited lifetime.
- Motor and gearbox, brakes (electromagnetic function), controller, PC board, harness, joystick, throttle and charger: 24 months.
- Batteries: 12 months, under the battery maker's own warranty.
- Accessories supplied by Drive: 1 year.
- Shrouds, tires, upholstery, armrest pads, fuses and other wear parts are covered only if defective on delivery.
- Excludes labour, service calls and shipping unless Drive authorizes them. Service is by an authorized Drive provider.
