Description
The Drive NRS18010 is a tilting aluminum shower chair commode that a caregiver pushes. Its padded seat and back tilt together up to 30 degrees. It works as a shower chair, a portable commode, or a seat over a standard toilet.
What does it do and how does it work?
- Tilt: the seat and back tip back together up to 30 degrees with a cable handle at the rear.
- Three uses: shower chair with the bucket out, commode with the bucket in, or over a standard toilet.
- Frame: rust-resistant aluminum, rated 300 lbs (136 kg); the chair weighs 45 lbs (20.4 kg).
- Seat: padded, 20 in wide by 17 in deep (51 by 43 cm), with a perineal opening and a removable insert.
- Back: adjustable upholstery, 19 in (48 cm) high, with a padded headrest.
- Arms and feet: flip-back padded arms; swing-away detachable footrests, height and angle adjustable.
- Safety: chest and waist belts, rear anti-tippers, and caster lock levers.
- Height: the seat height adjusts to the person's leg length.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- For a person who cannot sit upright for a shower or toilet visit, and a caregiver to push and tilt.
- No tilt needed: the NRS185007 holds 275 lbs (125 kg).
- 40 degrees and configured: the RAZ AT.
- Cannot transfer onto the chair: a patient lift.
Will it fit?
- Seat 20 by 17 in (51 by 43 cm). Compare it with the person's hip width.
- 45 lbs (20.4 kg), does not fold. Measure the doorway and floor space.
- Leave room behind the chair for the caregiver at the tilt handle.
- Over a toilet, the seat must clear the bowl rim.
- Small casters roll on a flat floor; a shower curb stops them.
Using it day to day
- Set the height, then lock the casters.
- Flip the arms back for a side transfer; swing the footrests out, then back in.
- Fasten the waist and chest belts before tilting. Return upright before releasing them.
- Lift the bucket out by its bracket; a liner makes cleanup quicker.
- Wipe the padded seat and aluminum frame; the bucket lifts out for washing.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- The 300 lbs (136 kg) rating is for a seated person; it is not a standing aid.
- Attendant propelled: no handrims, so the person cannot push.
- Not a transport chair: bathroom and bedside use, not outdoors.
- Limited lifetime warranty; see the Warranty tab.
How does it compare?
Against the NRS185007 it adds tilt and a headrest; that chair holds 275 lbs (125 kg).
Against the RAZ AT it tilts 10 degrees less and is a stock item, not a configured build. Browse all tilt commodes.
