Description

The Drive RTL6292 is a transfer and walking gait belt. A carer grips its four vertical straps to steady or move a person, and a side-release buckle holds it closed.

What does it do and how does it work?

It gives the carer a firm hold close to the body instead of gripping clothing or arms.

  • Four vertical straps run around the belt as separate grip points.
  • The band is wide and padded, so it spreads pressure around the waist.
  • The quick-release buckle opens the belt in one movement after the move.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

It suits a person who can take some weight and be steadied while a carer helps them move.

  • It is not a sling and must not be used to lift or suspend a person.
  • For a hoist transfer, choose a full body sling and a patient lift.
  • A moving and handling assessment decides whether a belt suits the person.

Will it fit?

The belt is one size and closes around the waist with the buckle.

  • Check the fit with the person wearing their usual clothing.
  • Ask us to confirm the belt suits the transfer before you order.

Using it day to day

Close the buckle, settle the band around the waist and keep the grip close to the body.

  • Hold the vertical straps from underneath, not by the loose ends.
  • Release the buckle after the move and take the belt off.
  • Check the straps, stitching and buckle before each use, and replace the belt if any part is worn or cracked.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

It is a manual handling aid only.

  • Do not use it as a restraint or a fall arrest device.
  • Do not leave it on the person after the transfer.

How does it compare?

Frequently asked questions

Can it lift a person?

No. It is for carer-assisted moves; a sling and lift are needed to raise someone.

Is it a fall arrest device?

No. It is a gait and transfer belt, not safety equipment for a fall.

Can it help with walking?

Yes. Drive calls it a transfer and walking belt for a carer assisting movement.

How do funding and fitting work?

Funding may help: see who may help pay.

We deliver across Toronto and the GTA, and a free home assessment can review the transfer and the carer's technique.
