Description
The Ezee Life CH1096 is a folding wheelchair rated to 300 lb (136 kg), for a rider who propels the 24 in (61 cm) rear wheels or is pushed.
What does it do and how does it work?
- The aluminum frame folds on a double cross brace, a stronger structure than a single brace.
- 24 in (61 cm) rear wheels with pushrims let the rider self-propel; the flat-free tires never need air.
- Desk-length arms flip back and lift out on a push pin for a side transfer.
- The 60 degree footrests swing away, detach and adjust from 17 to 21 in (43 to 53 cm) with flip-up PVC footplates.
- Wheel locks with extended handles, anti-tippers, a seat belt and a calf strap are fitted.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- A rider up to 300 lb (136 kg) who wants one chair for indoor and outdoor use, self-propelled or pushed.
- A wider rider should take the 20 inch CH1097, the same chair on a 20 in (51 cm) seat.
- A rider who needs tilt, recline or pressure relief needs a tilt wheelchair instead.
Will it fit?
- Measure seated hip width, back of hips to back of knee, and back of knee to heel in usual shoes.
- The seat is 18 by 16 in (46 by 41 cm), fixed 20 in (51 cm) from the floor; arm pads are 9 in (23 cm) above the seat.
- Keep 2 in (5 cm) of ground clearance under the footplates; open it is 25 in (64 cm) wide and folds to 11.5 in (29 cm) at 36 lb (16.3 kg).
Using it day to day
- To fold, flip the footplates up or remove the footrests and pull up the seat centre; push down the side frame to open.
- Push each brake handle forward to lock and pull it back to release; lock both before getting in or out.
- Loosen a footrest bolt with the supplied wrench to set leg length; on rough ground, pull the chair backwards.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- The seat takes off-the-shelf or custom seating in 18 by 16 in (46 by 41 cm); our wheelchair cushions fit.
- No elevating legrest is offered; the 300 lb (136 kg) limit includes the rider and any bag.
- The one-year warranty covers manufacturing defects for the original buyer; misuse and accidental damage void it. See the Warranty tab.
Which version should I choose?
- The CH1096 and 20 inch CH1097 are the same chair; choose by measured hip width.
- The CH1097 adds 2 in (5 cm) of seat width and weighs 37 lb (16.8 kg).
How does it compare?
- The CH1093 is a steel standard chair on the same 18 by 16 in seat, with a lower 17.5 in (44.5 cm) setting and removable arms.
- A transport chair has small rear wheels and no pushrims, for a rider who is always pushed; over 300 lb, see bariatric wheelchairs.
Frequently asked questions
Can the arms come off for a side transfer?
Yes. Press the release pin, lift the arm straight up, and check it locks when refitted.
Do the tires need air?
No. The tires are solid flat-free rubber, so a cut or puncture does not leave them flat.
What should I check as it ages?
Check the upholstery for tears or sagging, the hand grips for wear, and that the brakes do not rub the tires.
