Description

The Fortress S410 is a four-wheel mid-size scooter from Sunrise Medical, sold as a Standard model rated 300 lb (136 kg) or a High Performance model rated 350 lb (159 kg).

What does it do and how does it work?

  • Standard reaches 10 km/h (6.2 mph); High Performance 10.5 km/h (6.5 mph) with a 120 A controller.
  • Two 12 V, 55 Ah gel or AGM batteries (Group 22) give up to 34 km (21.1 mi).
  • The 8 A charger needs at least 8 hours for a full charge.
  • 10 in tires, suspension and LED lighting all round are standard.
  • Releasing the wig-wag throttle applies regenerative braking, then an automatic parking brake.
  • The seat is 19 by 19 in and adjusts from 17.5 to 19.5 in; a wire basket is included.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

  • A rider up to 300 or 350 lb for indoor and outdoor errands.
  • It turns in 58.2 in (1478 mm), the shortest in the Fortress line.
  • High Performance adds 50 lb and more torque; the body and seat are the same.
  • It is not a travel scooter: at 48 by 25.4 in it needs a van or a lift.

Will it fit?

  • Length 48 in (1219 mm), width 25.4 in (645 mm) and turning radius 58.2 in (1478 mm).
  • The seat is 19 by 19 in (483 by 483 mm), 17.5 to 19.5 in (445 to 495 mm) above the floor.
  • The frame does not fold; the seat lifts off for storage and transport.
  • Measure the doorway and the car opening; a free home assessment checks both.

Using it day to day

  • Turn the key, set the speed dial and drive with the wig-wag throttle; the 50% button halves top speed.
  • Charge in a ventilated room on a hard surface, never outdoors, for at least 8 hours.
  • The freewheel lever lets you push the scooter; use it only on level ground and never while seated.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

  • The weight limit includes the rider and any accessories fitted.
  • Do not climb a curb over 2 in (50 mm), and approach curbs straight on.
  • Avoid mud, water, snow and loose surfaces; it is designed for paved ground.
  • It is not a vehicle seat, and the airline must approve it before you fly.

Which model should I choose?

  • Standard: 300 lb (136 kg) and 10 km/h (6.2 mph).
  • High Performance: 350 lb (159 kg), 10.5 km/h (6.5 mph) and the 120 A controller.
  • Both come in black, blue or red with the same dimensions and basket.

How does it compare?

The four-wheel scooter range lists larger Fortress models and other mid-size scooters. The travel scooter range covers models built to fold or come apart for a car.

Frequently asked questions

What is different in High Performance?

It raises capacity to 350 lb and top speed to 10.5 km/h, with a 120 A controller.

Does it fold?

No. The seat lifts off, but the frame stays whole and needs a van or lift.

How long does charging take?

At least 8 hours with the 8 A charger.

What about air travel?

The airline must approve it, and the gel or AGM batteries must meet its rules.

Sunrise's S-Series manual gives a 24-month parts warranty on manufacturing defects and excludes consumables such as batteries and tires; coverage can vary by province. Our service team services what we sell.
