Description

The Handicare FlexiGrip 6090 is a bed ladder with eight padded red handles. A person in bed pulls hand over hand from lying to sitting and can hold it while sitting on the bed edge.

What does it do and how does it work?

  • The 175 cm (69 in) ladder lies along the mattress, and the end loop anchors around the foot of the bed.
  • Eight padded handles give a grip at different heights as the person pulls up.
  • The red handles stand out against the bedding.
  • It is made of wide nylon webbing and rated 150 kg (330 lbs).
  • The extension strap 6091 adds 120 cm (47.2 in) for a longer bed.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

  • For a person with enough arm and core strength to pull themselves up, who finds getting up in bed difficult.
  • For standing practice and rehabilitation beside the bed.
  • It is not a lift; a person who cannot pull needs a patient lift and a sling.

Will it fit?

  • Length is 175 cm (69 in) and width 9 cm (3.5 in); it is one size.
  • Loop the end around the foot of the bed, and check that the frame takes the loop.
  • The extension strap 6091 is for a bed where 175 cm does not reach.

Using it day to day

  • Pull each handle before use and check the webbing and stitching.
  • Retire it if the webbing is torn or a handle is damaged.
  • It is easy to clean and thin enough to stay on the bed. Do not use fabric softener, and avoid tumble drying.

What are its limits?

  • The rating is 150 kg (330 lbs).
  • It is a pull-up aid, not a lifting device.
  • It does not replace a bed rail or a lift.

How does it compare?

A patient lift raises a person who cannot pull. A transfer gait belt gives a carer a handhold during a seated or standing move. See slings for the sling range.

Frequently asked questions

Is the extension strap part of item 6090?

No. The extension strap is item 6091, 120 cm (47.2 in), and it is a separate item.

How does it attach to the bed?

The end loop goes around the foot of the bed, and the ladder lies along the mattress.

Is it a lifting sling?

No. The person pulls on the handles to sit up; it is not a sling and does not hang on a lift.
