Description
The Handicare Independent Lifter is a sling-free transfer attachment for a Handicare ceiling lift with a QRS hook. The ceiling lift does the raising; the person holds the torso supports, rests their legs on the leg supports and steers their own transfer. It is rated 440 lb (200 kg).
Who it is for
- A person with moderate to strong upper body function who can grip the frame and work the ceiling lift controls.
- It is not a lift on its own: it has no motor, battery or track. The ceiling lift and track are separate.
- Someone who needs full support in a sling should use a sling lift instead; see the patient lift range.
How it supports the transfer
- It clips to the QRS hook on a two-point or four-point bar.
- The torso supports have three-point, spring-loaded adjustment.
- The leg supports have adjustable straps, and a three-position spring sets the grip strength.
- Leg support sizes are Small (341600), Medium (341610) and Large (341620), chosen for the person's build.
- Single-leg kits are 341650 Small, 341660 Medium and 341670 Large.
- The frame is stainless steel with polyurethane pads and rounded corners.
Where it can be used
- It is used at swimming pools, in bathrooms and bedrooms, and at toilets and showers.
- The stainless steel frame and sealed pads suit wet places where a fabric sling would stay damp.
- Wipe the frame and pads clean after use.
Limits
- The attachment is rated 440 lb (200 kg); the ceiling lift has its own rating and the lower of the two applies.
- Do not exceed either rating, and have the ceiling structure checked before the track is installed.
- Inspect the frame, pads and supports before each use and replace a worn part.
Where it fits in the range

Frequently asked questions
Which leg support size do I need?
Leg supports come in Small, Medium and Large, chosen to match the person's build.
How do I clean the lifter?
The frame is stainless steel with rounded corners and smooth surfaces, so it wipes clean, and the pads are polyurethane.
Can I order a replacement leg support?
Yes. Single-leg kits come in Small (341650), Medium (341660) and Large (341670).
Does it work without a ceiling lift?
No. It hangs from the QRS hook of a Handicare ceiling lift, which raises and lowers it. It has no motor or battery of its own.
