Description
The Handicare Rehab Walking Total Support sling, item 510424, is the Large standing and walking support sling for someone who can stand. It supports the torso and legs during standing, gait training and transfers.
What does it do and how does it work?
It wraps the torso and the legs while the person stands and walks with a floor or ceiling lift.
- Hook-and-loop enclosures close the torso. A padded harness buckles on the two leg pieces.
- The straps hang from a Handicare carry bar. The back support is 12 in (31 cm) on every size.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
It suits someone who can stand with minimal help and who has trunk control, weight bearing, bridging, quad strength and enough cognition to follow the transfer.
- A person who cannot stand needs a full-body sling.
- It must not lift someone from sitting to standing.
- A clinician assesses them first, then reviews that assessment.
Will it fit?
Large 510424 (green) fits a mid-section of 34 to 38 in (86 to 97 cm). XL 510425 (blue) fits 38 to 42 in (97 to 107 cm). XXL 510426 (black) fits 42 to 46 in (107 to 117 cm).
- Every size is rated 800 lb (363 kg).
- Leg strap adjustment is 21 to 40 in (53 to 102 cm) on Large, 24 to 46 in (61 to 117 cm) on XL, and 12 to 52 in (30 to 132 cm) on XXL.
- Removable strap sets are 510430 (Large), 510431 (XL) and 510432 (XXL).

Using it day to day
Seat the person. Place the back support behind them and the torso support under the arms.
- Pass the chest straps through the two D-rings and close the hook-and-loop.
- Use the first loop on both sides of the carry bar, then raise until the straps tighten. Check both hooks.
- If it feels uncomfortable, lower them and reset the straps. Parallel bars should be there so they can rise and walk.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
It fits every Handicare loop carry bar, on a floor lift or a ceiling lift.
- Do not leave it under the person for long periods. That raises the risk of skin breakdown.
- Inspect it before each use. Wash it in a laundry bag, and discard it if it is torn.
- Stay at or under the lower of the sling rating and the lift rating.

Frequently asked questions
What if the person slips while walking?
The sling supports them if they slip. They still have to be able to stand.
Can one strap set be replaced on its own?
Yes. The straps come off. Large is 510430, XL is 510431 and XXL is 510432.
What if only one side tightens?
Lower the person and reset the loops so both sides carry the same weight.
