Description

NA1030 is the XL Hoyer Bariatric Hammock Sling with head support, for transferring a bariatric patient on a Hoyer bariatric loop cradle.

What does it do and how does it work?

The hammock cradles the body from the shoulders to behind the knees, and the head support steadies the head through the lift.

  • The triple-skinned breathable fabric suits a patient who may stay in the sling for an extended period.
  • A pommel strap adds security and helps stop the patient slipping during the transfer.
  • Separate hip straps add support and should not be over-tensioned.
  • Shoulder, leg and hip straps hang from the cradle on loops.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

It suits a bariatric patient who needs a full body sling with head support for a passive lift transfer.

  • Bariatric patients may have airway, skin or staffing needs, so assess the transfer before use.
  • Only genuine Hoyer slings are made for Hoyer lifts.
  • It is not a stand aid or a repositioning sheet.

Which size is which?

XL is NA1030 (red and white), 2XL NA1031 (yellow and white), 3XL NA1032 (green and white), 4XL NA1033 (blue and white) and 5XL NA1034 (black and white).

  • Each size has its own item number.
  • Four of the five size marks on the label are crossed out; the open mark is the size you have.
  • The safe working load is 850 lb (385 kg).

Which lift does it fit?

It is listed for the Hoyer Calibre and the HPL700 on a bariatric loop bar.

  • Only the smaller sizes should be used with the HPL700, because of clearance over a bed. We confirm the size against that bed before you order.
  • The lower of the sling and lift ratings is the one that applies.

Using it day to day

Roll the patient onto the sling with a draw sheet, with the bottom just behind the knees and the top at shoulder-blade height.

  • Keep the sling flat, with the pommel strap accessible.
  • Bring the lift in with the cradle hooks away from the face, then attach the shoulder and leg straps, feeding each leg strap through its pommel loop.
  • Raise slightly until the straps are tensioned, then attach the hip straps to the centre hooks using the nearest loop.
  • Lengthening the shoulder straps gives a more reclined position.

What care does it need?

Machine wash warm, no hotter than 185 F (85 C), and do not bleach.

  • Cool tumble dry, air dry, or dry at very low heat.
  • Check the sling and stitching before each use, and discard a bleached, torn, cut or frayed sling.
  • Do not alter the sling, and never leave the patient unattended.

How does it compare?

Frequently asked questions

Will it fit a lift that is not a Hoyer?

The sling is made for Hoyer cradles; another brand needs a maker-approved pairing first.

Can every size go on an HPL700?

No. Only the smaller sizes should be used with the HPL700, because of clearance over a bed.

Is the head support removable?

The head support is built into this sling and is adjusted for comfort.

How do funding and fitting work?

Funding may help: see who may help pay.

We deliver and fit slings across Toronto and the GTA, and a free home assessment can check the lift and the bed first.
