Description

The Hoyer Classic HPL402 is a powered floor lift for homecare, rated 400 lb (181 kg). The boom is powered and the legs open by hand.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

  • For a person up to 400 lb (181 kg) who needs a floor lift for bed, chair or floor transfers.
  • For homecare, where the powered boom reduces the effort of lifting.
  • A carer opens the base by hand with a pull handle; there is no motor on the legs.
  • Choose a lighter lift if the 93 lb (42.2 kg) weight is hard to move between rooms.

Will it fit?

  • Closed width is 24 in (610 mm), open width 39.5 in (1,003 mm), and overall length 44.8 in (1,137 mm).
  • Check the narrowest doorway against the closed width, and measure the room.
  • The lift weighs 93 lb (42.2 kg).

How does a transfer work?

  • The boom runs from the hand control; the legs open by hand with a pull handle, right to widen and left to narrow.
  • The actuator is reverse-mounted for knee clearance, and the base has leg guards and caster bumpers.
  • The lift comes with a 4-point cradle. Use Hoyer 4-point slings only: never another maker's sling on this lift, and never a Hoyer sling on another maker's lift.
  • Keep the base widened for stability, and never lock the brakes or block the wheels while lifting; the brakes are for parking.

Battery and charging

  • Two 12 V sealed rechargeable batteries power the lift; the charger takes 120 V AC and outputs 24 V DC.
  • A full charge takes about 6 hours, and an unused battery holds charge for about six months.
  • Do not charge the battery while someone is in the lift or in a wet area.

What does the warranty cover?

Joerns covers the structure and power unit for 1 year; see the warranty terms.

How does it compare?

The Hoyer Advance is a lighter floor lift with a lower working load. See patient lifts and patient lift rentals.

Frequently asked questions

Does the base open with a motor?

No. The boom is powered; the base is manual. Pull the handle back to unlock, then move it right to widen or left to narrow.

Can it lower if the battery is flat?

Yes. A mechanical down-release lever lowers the boom without power, and the power unit has an emergency-down control.

What sling fits?

Hoyer 4-point slings on the lift's 4-point cradle. Do not use another maker's sling.

Is a scale included?

No. A scale is optional; ask if you need one before you order.

Funding and setup

Funding may help: see who may help pay. We deliver and set up floor lifts across Toronto and the GTA, fit the sling and show the emergency lowering. A free home assessment can check the doorway first.
