Description

The Hugo Ice-O-Grip is an attachment that gives a cane or a crutch steel prongs for ice and snow, and then folds out of the way when winter ends. This page is for the five prong version.

It clamps to the shaft with a bracket and straps rather than replacing the tip. The maker says it attaches easily to standard size wooden or aluminium canes and crutches, and that it adapts to different tubing diameters, so the same grip suits more than one cane in the house.

When you are back on dry ground, flip it up. After the season it lifts off and stores flat. The five prongs are stainless steel and bite into ice and hard packed snow to steady the cane as you walk.

That is what the maker claims for it. The maker's sheet prints no weight limit, no tube diameter range, and no maximum user weight, so none of those is claimed on this page.

The maker's photo shows this item beside another version of the same grip that ends in a single steel spike, which has its own item number. If you want the five prong claw, choose the five prong version here and we will confirm the maker number on your quote.

This page is for the grip only. A cane, a crutch, and a plain rubber tip are separate. Other winter items, such as a replacement cane tip with a metal insert, are different parts with their own numbers and do not do the same job on ice.

Funding may help: see who may help pay. See walkers, walker accessories, and rollator accessories, or contact us with the diameter of your cane tube and we will check the fit.

Frequently asked questions

Which canes and crutches take this grip?

The maker says standard size wooden or aluminium canes and crutches, and that it adapts to different tubing diameters. The maker prints no diameter range, so send us the tube size and we will confirm it.

Can I leave it on all year?

You can, but you do not need to. The maker says it flips up when it is not in use and comes off after winter.

Does it replace the rubber tip on my cane?

No. It clamps to the shaft above the tip and hangs beside it, so the tip already on your cane stays where it is.

Does a cane come with it?

No. You get the grip with its clamp and straps only.
