Description
JAY Wheelchair Shoe Holders from Sunrise Medical hold the feet, heels and ankles in place on a wheelchair, which broadens the seating footprint and steadies overall posture.
What does it do and how does it work?
Each style wraps the foot or ankle in a padded or structured shell and closes with side release buckles.
- Ankle positioning: a padded heel support and ankle strap, for mild tone.
- Foot and ankle positioning: a padded heel support with foot and ankle straps, for moderate tone.
- Shoe holder: two foot straps with heel and lateral foot support, for moderate to high tone.
- Flexi-Feet: a dynamic build for frequent tone or involuntary movement.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
It suits someone whose feet slide back or lift off the footplates and need to stay set for sitting.
- For the pelvis, choose a wheelchair cushion; for the trunk, a backrest.
Will it fit?
Sizes run by footbed length and width, so measure the foot and match it to the style.
- Ankle positioning: XS to XL, 6 by 4.5 in (15 by 11 cm) up to 10.75 by 6.5 in (27 by 17 cm).
- Foot and ankle positioning: S to XL, 7.75 by 5 in (20 by 13 cm) up to 10.75 by 6.5 in (27 by 17 cm).
- Shoe holder: S to XL, 5.75 by 3 in (15 by 8 cm) up to 12.75 by 6 in (32 by 15 cm).
- Flexi-Feet: XS to L, 4.5 by 2.75 in (11 by 7 cm) up to 9 by 4.5 in (23 by 11 cm).
Using it day to day
The holder sits on the chair's footplates, and the straps close over the foot or ankle.
- The ankle and foot and ankle styles come in left and right versions, so order the side you need.
- The shoe holder comes padded or non-padded, and a tendon relief version is available in S to XL.
- Flexi-Feet is sold as a pair.
- It positions the feet and ankles and does not replace the chair's footrests; JAY Your Way modifications are not offered.
Which version should I choose?
- Match the style to the tone guide above; a therapist can set the foot position in line with the hips and trunk.
- The padded shoe holder adds padding under the straps; the non-padded version has none.
How does it compare?
- Wheelchair cushions: support the pelvis and thighs, not the feet.
- Backrests: support the trunk and head.
- Positioning support: the wider range of trunk, pelvis and limb supports.
Frequently asked questions
Which style suits mild tone?
Ankle positioning is the lightest of the four. The foot and ankle style straps across the foot as well, and the shoe holder adds two foot straps with heel and side support.
Does one size fit every foot?
No. Each style runs from its smallest to largest footbed, and we match the foot to the size chart.
Is a shoe holder a restraint?
No. It is a positioning support for the feet, heels and ankles, not a way to secure a person in the chair.
Can it be added to an existing chair?
Yes. It is ordered separately from the chair and sits on the existing footplates.
