What should be in the carton
- Joerns' system is a control unit plus a mattress. Confirm both are in this carton.
- Width is 35 in (89 cm) in the 2021 manual and 36 in (91 cm) on the current maker sheet; confirm it with your order.
- If you already own the pump or the mattress, confirm this is not a second copy.
Size, weight and rails
- Length on both sources is 80 in (203 cm) and height is 8 in (20 cm). Limit 350 lb (159 kg).
- The pump is 10 lb (4.5 kg) and 7.5 x 12.25 x 5.5 in (19 x 31 x 14 cm). Count it only if the carton includes it.
- Ten straps go to the moving part of the frame. Health Canada: gaps under 120 mm in the rail and between rail and mattress, and under 60 mm at the rail ends. See bed rails.
Who it is not for
- Joerns calls it an aid for people at risk of a pressure injury, including stage I to stage IV. The clinician decides. Not for an unstable spinal fracture unless the doctor agrees.
- A non-powered choice is a foam mattress.
Power, air and cushions
- Autofirm, static Therapy or Alternating. Autofirm ends after about 12 minutes. Inflation takes 15 minutes or less.
- The power-fail alarm runs up to 20 minutes. Cells should stay up about 12 hours if the pump stays connected. No foam layer is listed for this model.
- Low air loss is under the cover, up to 40 litres per minute when the cycle is done or in static therapy. CPR is the quick-disconnect hose at the pump.
- CairRails are side cushions. Joerns says they do not guarantee a fall or entrapment will be prevented.
- Wipe the nylon cover. No steam. Warranty: 2 years mattress, 1 year cover and parts (Warranty tab). A used mattress cannot come back: return policy.

Joerns Healthcare warrants the DermaFloat APL support surface (mattress and control unit) against defects in workmanship and materials under normal and proper use. The warranty covers the original purchaser.
- Mattress: 2 years.
- Cover and electromechanical parts (compressors, valves, circuit boards, hoses and couplers): 1 year.
- Joerns supplies replacement parts, or services or replaces a defective product, at its option.
- Excludes burns, improper chemicals, needle punctures, cuts or abrasions, excessive loads, staining, improper maintenance or cleaning, use against the manual, and unauthorized modification or repair.
