Description
The Joerns N517 and N518 mattress side stop kits fit the UltraCare XT bed. Each kit is a pair of stops, fasteners and instructions that helps keep the mattress from sliding sideways.
What does it do and how does it work?
- The stops sit at the sides of the mattress platform and hold the mattress in place laterally.
- N517 is the 76 in kit for the head section and all foot sections; N518 is the 80 in head kit.
- They can be installed with Joerns assist devices or on their own.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- Choose a kit when the mattress on an UltraCare XT slides sideways on the platform.
- Choose N517 for a 76 in head section or any foot section; choose N518 for an 80 in head section.
- Choose a bed rail or bed accessory if you need support getting in and out. These stops are mattress keepers, not rails.
Will it fit?
- Measure the section: 76 in (193 cm) or 80 in (203 cm). The kit matches the section length.
- The mattress must fill the full width between the stops and must not compress below 1.5 in (3.8 cm) under the person's weight.
- Both kits fit the 500 lb (2010 to December 2023) and 650 lb UltraCare XT. Tell us the model and serial number if you are unsure.
Using it day to day
- You need a #2 Phillips screwdriver.
- Push the stop ends up through the bushings from under the platform, pull up the centre, and drive the screws from the top.
- Refit the mattress and check it fills the width between the stops.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- Sitting or sliding over a stop can injure skin if the mattress compresses below 1.5 in (3.8 cm) under the person's weight.
- If the mattress does not fill the width between the stops, it can entangle or injure the person.
- Health Canada advises checking the mattress against the bed and any rails; these stops do not replace rails or prevent falls.
- They are bed hardware, not a mattress. Ask us before returning one. See our return policy.
