Description
The 14048 is the 48-inch member of Drive's four-size bariatric Med-Aire Plus line: a powered mattress replacement, 48 x 80 x 10 in (122 x 203 x 25 cm). Its 750 lb (340 kg) limit applies to this width.
Who is it for?
- Drive labels the family for prevention, treatment and healing of all stages of pressure ulcers in home or long-term care.
- That is Drive's intended use, not a promised result; a nurse, doctor or therapist should choose the surface.
- It is not the 42-inch 14030 (600 lbs) or a 36-inch surface.
How does it work?
- Twenty removable 10 in cell-on-cell air cells with a pillow feature; the construction is designed to prevent bottoming out.
- The digital control unit offers alternating cycles of 10, 15, 20 or 25 minutes, static operation and low air loss, with adjustable comfort weight settings.
- Auto Firm, Seat Inflate, auto-recovery and a lockout support care and transfers.
- Three audio and visual alarms cover air pressure, the system and power.
- The removable quilted nylon cover is fluid-resistant, low shear and vapour permeable; the CPR valve deflates quickly and the tubing uses an EZ Lock connector.
Will it fit?
- The mattress is rated 750 lbs; the lower of that and the bed's safe working load applies.
- The 10 in (25 cm) height changes transfer height and rail gaps. Health Canada advises gaps under 120 mm (4 3/4 in) in zones 1 to 3 and 60 mm (2 3/8 in) in zone 4; check the gap at the bed rails on a 48 in deck after inflation.
- Check room clearance and a bariatric bed; a home assessment can measure first.
What happens in a power cut?
- Drive states the cell-on-cell design gives up to 24 hours of power-outage protection.
- Powered alternation and low air loss stop without electricity; the 24 hours is support, not continued therapy.
Care and warranty
- Cells are replaceable (14048-CELL), the cover is 14048C and the mattress-only code is 14048MN.

Frequently asked questions
Is the digital pump included?
Yes. The full 14048 system includes its control unit; the bed frame is separate.
Can it run without alternation?
Yes. The controller has a static selection beside the four alternating cycle choices.
What happens during an outage?
Powered air movement stops. Drive states cell-on-cell support lasts up to 24 hours, and the care team's outage and skin-check plan still applies.
Can a cell or cover be replaced?
Yes. 14048-CELL is the bladder, 14048C the cover and 14048MN the mattress only.

Warranty details
Drive Medical warrants the Med-Aire Plus 10 inch bariatric alternating pressure and low air loss mattress system (14048, 48 inch) to be free of defects in materials and workmanship for 18 months, for the original consumer purchaser.
- Control unit (14030XP): 18 months.
- Mattress: 18 months.
- Excludes failure from owner misuse or negligence, and normal wear and tear.
- Non-durable parts that wear with use and need periodic replacement are not covered.
