Description
This is the Group 24 gel battery MK builds for large power chairs and scooters: East Penn part 8G24T881, model M24 SLD G, 73.6 Ah at the 20-hour rate.
Which power chairs and scooters take it?
Group 24 is the large power chair size. MK's own wheelchair chart sets two Group 24 batteries for chairs such as the Quantum 4Front 2 and Q6 Edge HD, and Pride lists a Group 24 pair as standard on the Pursuit XL. Check the group size and the terminal on your old battery before ordering; we match it for you.
A smaller case will not fit: U1 and 22NF chairs need those sizes instead, in our power chair batteries and scooter batteries.
What MK prints for it
The case measures 10.20 x 6.56 x 9.27 in (259 x 167 x 235 mm) and weighs 51.5 lb (23 kg). The terminal is MK's G code, a forged offset post with a 5/16 in stainless bolt and nut, and the hardware ships with the battery.
Plates are lead calcium in a polypropylene case, and MK rates the battery non-spillable by ICAO, IATA and DOT.
Gel, not AGM
Gel and AGM are both sealed, but they charge differently, so fit the chemistry your chair asks for and never mix the two. A new battery beside an old one shortens the life of both.
Charging, care and disposal
MK prints 13.8 to 14.6 V for cycle charging and 13.4 to 13.6 V float, both at 25 C, and warns that a new gel battery needs a few cycles before it reaches full range.
When the pair finally fails, bring it in: a sealed lead acid battery never goes in household garbage. Our technicians can fit and test a new pair through battery replacement or our service team.
Frequently asked questions
How many batteries does my chair need?
Most Group 24 chairs and scooters take two, wired for 24 V. The page price is for one battery.
Can I swap a gel battery into a chair that ran AGM?
Only if the chair's maker allows it. Sealed does not mean interchangeable: gel and AGM charge on different settings, so fit the chemistry your machine specifies.
My chair asks for a Group 22NF or U1. Does this fit?
No. Those are smaller cases. Ask us for the Group 22NF or U1 gel battery instead.
Can I fly with it?
MK rates it non-spillable by ICAO, IATA and DOT. The airline still makes the final call, so ask before you fly.
