Description
The MK Deka DC24 is a 12 V Group 24 flooded deep-cycle battery, 75 Ah at the 20-hour rate, for a boat's house bank or a renewable system.
What does it do and how does it work?
- Stores 75 Ah at the 20-hour rate and holds 135 minutes of reserve at a 25 A load.
- Rates 525 cold cranking amps and 645 marine cranking amps.
- U terminal: an offset SAE post and vertical 5/16 in studs with wing nuts; a moulded handle.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- For a ventilated Group 24 tray on a boat, in an RV or in a renewable bank.
- Not for a scooter, power chair or stairlift: those need sealed AGM or gel batteries.
Will it fit?
- Case: 10.75 x 6.75 x 9.38 in (273 x 171 x 238 mm).
- A Group 24 hold-down fits the case.
- Check that the cable lugs reach the 5/16 in studs. The wing nuts come with the battery.
Using it day to day
- Charge on a flooded lead-acid profile: 14.70 V absorption, 14.10 V float and 15.30 V equalize at 77 F (25 C).
- Hold absorption or equalization 4 to 12 hours; bulk current at or below 22.5 A.
- Recharge after each use and keep it charged between trips.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- A flooded cell releases gas while it charges, so the compartment must be ventilated. Never seal it in a container.
How does it compare?
The DC27 is the same flooded line at 90 Ah in a longer Group 27 case. For a sealed compartment, see the AGM and gel ranges.
Frequently asked questions
Is the DC24 an AGM or gel battery?
Neither. It is flooded, so it vents gas and needs a ventilated compartment.
Can it replace the battery in my scooter or power chair?
No. Those use sealed AGM or gel batteries and a different charge profile.
Where does the old battery go?
Never in the garbage. Take it to a Toronto hazardous-waste depot or a Peel Community Recycling Centre.
Funding may help: see who may help pay. Our battery replacement service can check the old battery. Warranty terms are in the Warranty tab.
