Description
Parsons ADL, a division of KEGO in London, Ontario, makes the 16B136A-2, a left hand L shaped grab bar in knurled chrome, with a 16 in (40.6 cm) upright and a 24 in (61 cm) run, for the corner beside a tub or shower.
What does it do and how does it work?
One handhold turns the corner, so the grip follows a person from the tub into the shower.
- 1 in (2.5 cm) steel tubing with a .049 in (1.2 mm) wall, knurled for grip and triple plated in chrome.
- Three 11 gauge flanges are silver soldered to the bar: top of the upright, corner, and end of the run.
- Left hand puts the upright at the left end of the run, an L on the wall. Right hand is 16B138A-2.
- The tubing stands 1 1/2 in (3.8 cm) off the wall, and the bar comes as one piece.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- Someone who reaches with the left hand and wants a grip that turns a corner.
- A flat wall needs a straight grab bar, which costs less and comes in lengths from 12 in to 32 in.
- A wall that cannot take fixings needs a super pole instead.
- A suction bar is not an alternative: Parsons ADL sells its suction bars as a balance assist only, not for body weight.
Will it fit?
- Measure the corner: the upright is 16 in (40.6 cm) and the run 24 in (61 cm), and the bar cannot be cut down.
- Each flange is screwed into a wall stud. On a horizontal or angled flange, at least two of the three holes are used.
- Mobility fits grab bars. Ask when you order, or book a free home assessment to find the studs and set the height.
Using it day to day
- Use it as a handhold for one person at a time.
- Confirm all three flanges are tight before anyone uses the bar.
- It is not a step, a shelf or a towel rail.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- The wall fixing carries the load, so the strength depends on the studs or anchors it is fixed to.
- Mount it into wall studs with the rust-resistant screws that come with the bar.
- One-year warranty for the original purchaser; see the Warranty tab.
How does it compare?
- The right hand Parsons L bar mirrors this one for a reach with the other arm.
- A straight bar fits a flat wall and costs less, but it does not turn a corner.
- A super pole works where the wall cannot carry a bar.
Frequently asked questions
Can the bar be cut to a shorter run?
No. It is one welded assembly with flanges soldered at the factory. Choose a straight bar if you need a different length.
Are screws or anchors included?
Rust-resistant screws are included and go into wall studs. We confirm the wall before you order if a flange will not meet a stud.
Can it be mounted on tile?
Yes. The screws go through the tile and into the studs behind it. The wall, not the tile, carries the load.
