Description
The Permobil Adapt is a non-powered foam mattress replacement with patented Shear Reduction Technology (SRT). The standard build is 36 by 80 by 7 in (AD3680), and widths run to 60 in.
What does it do and how does it work?
- The interchangeable foam surface uses two layers that move against each other, absorbing shear as the bed is raised or the person shifts.
- Removable GelFlex sections can be swapped for ROHO or Vicair mattress sections, sold separately, where the care plan calls for air or SmartCell support.
- The head and foot foam sections stay fixed, and the mattress is zoned for the head, torso and feet.
- The middle is cut higher for immersion without losing the transfer edge.
- There is no pump, so a power cut changes nothing.
Who is it for?
- It suits a person at high risk of skin breakdown whose bed is measured for a 7 in mattress.
- A nurse, doctor or therapist sets the care plan; the surface supports that plan and does not replace repositioning.
- Choose a powered low air loss or alternating pressure surface when active therapy is needed.
Will it fit the bed?
- AD3680: 36 by 80 by 7 in (91 by 203 by 18 cm). AD3684 is 36 by 84 in.
- Wider and longer builds have their own codes: AD3980 39 by 80, AD4280 42 by 80, AD4284 42 by 84, AD4880 48 by 80, AD5480 54 by 80 and AD6080 60 by 80 in.
- The 36 and 39 in builds are rated 350 lbs (159 kg); the 42 in and wider builds are rated 500 lbs (227 kg).
- Bolstered sides firm the transfer edges, and a raised bolster version adds 3 in at the head and foot while leaving the middle open for egress.
- Check the rail gaps. Health Canada recommends under 120 mm (4 3/4 in) within and under the rail, and under 60 mm (2 3/8 in) at the rail ends. See bed rails.
- A mattress that has touched skin cannot be returned. Measure first and read the return policy.
What is the cover like?
- A Recovery 5 five-way stretch incontinent top cover is fitted as standard.
- Follow the facility's cover protocol and inspect the seams before each reuse.
How does it compare?
- Allay: a GelFlex-topped foam mattress without removable modular sections.
- Align: high-resilience foam in one piece.
- Alternating pressure mattresses: powered surfaces for active therapy.
Frequently asked questions
Are the side bolsters bed rails?
No. They are foam borders inside the mattress for transfers. They cannot prevent a fall or entrapment by themselves.
Is it a powered alternating mattress?
No. It is reactive foam with no pump, alternating cycle or low air loss.
Can I add ROHO or Vicair sections?
Yes. The removable GelFlex sections take compatible ROHO or Vicair mattress sections, sold separately. The section size must match the mattress width and the clinical plan.
What size is AD3680?
36 by 80 by 7 in, rated 350 lbs (159 kg). The 42 in and wider codes are rated 500 lbs (227 kg).
