Description

The Handicare QuickMove, part number 400801334, is a manual sit-to-stand aid for transfers, gait training and standing tests.

What does it do and how does it work?

It supports the rise and the transfer without a motor.

  • Split seat pads swing away, then fold down behind the buttocks once the user is standing.
  • The knee pad adjusts in height, depth and tilt.
  • The base widens from 20.4 to 36 in (510 to 900 mm).
  • The footplate is detachable and non-slip; seat depth has two positions.
  • Four 3 in (75 mm) castors, with brakes on the rear.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

The user must support their weight standing, stand and keep balance with support, grasp the handles and understand instructions.

  • It suits someone who can rise upright or semi-upright with help, including after surgery.
  • A person who cannot bear weight needs a floor lift and sling.
  • A powered sit-to-stand lift suits someone with leg strength but weak arms.

Will it fit?

It runs on a flat floor only and is not intended for long transfers.

  • Overall size is 38.6 x 24.2 x 44.8 in (980 x 605 x 1120 mm).
  • The seat is 18.8 in (480 mm) wide and 10.4 in (265 mm) deep, at 28.7 to 33.4 in (730 to 850 mm) high.
  • Measure the path from bed to chair or toilet.

Using it day to day

Place the aid close to the user and put both feet on the footplate.

  • Adjust the leg support height and depth and the seat depth before the rise.
  • The user grips the handlebar horizontally or vertically and rises with their own strength.
  • The caregiver folds the seat pads down so the user can sit during the transfer.
  • The adjustment bar sets the seat and handgrip angle.
  • Check the seams and material and discard the aid if they are worn.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

Accessories add torso support: BackSupport 70200037, and SupportStraps 6061 with EasyBelt or FlexiBelt.

  • The BackSupport fastens behind the user and adjusts to their height.
  • Capacity is 375 lb (170 kg); the steel frame weighs 77 lb (35 kg).
  • It is a transfer aid, not a lifting device.

Frequently asked questions

Can it be used on carpet?

No. It runs on a flat floor; carpet, thresholds and uneven surfaces are out.

Does the user have to stand without support?

They must stand and keep balance with support, hold the handles and follow instructions.

Can the person sit during the transfer?

Yes. The caregiver folds the seat pads down behind the buttocks, and the user can sit or stay standing.

Funding help for a patient lift in Ontario

March of Dimes Canada's Home and Vehicle Modification Program may consider floor patient lifts for eligible Ontario residents; it is income-tested, needs an occupational therapist's assessment and must approve the purchase first.

WSIB may consider a lift for a worker whose workplace injury requires one, and Veterans Affairs Canada may cover transfer and lift devices for eligible Veterans with a prescription.

A private health plan may pay part of the cost, and we prepare the quote these programs ask for. See March of Dimes funding and our funding guide, or call (905) 798-1853.
